Estany D'en Mas Overview

Thinking about giving the Estany D’en Mas coastal hike, abseil, and sea cave adventure a try? I mean, you’re in for a quite unusual experience! Seriously, it offers a unique blend of physical challenge and stunning views, something that you don’t see every day. My trip definitely had its ups and downs, but overall, that’s an outing I’d recommend to anyone that loves the outdoors, just so you know. I’m going to get you ready with what you want to know before you go, alright?

What to anticipate during the Coastal Hike

Estany D'en Mas Coastal Hike

The coastal hike to reach the abseiling spot actually offers breathtaking scenery, pretty much guaranteeing your camera is coming out frequently. The trail is not exactly a walk in the park; rather it includes uneven terrain and some rocky patches, actually meaning a reasonable degree of fitness helps a whole lot. On my visit, there was, too, quite a stiff breeze coming in off the sea, therefore just be prepared for some wind!

You might find yourself stopping frequently, as I did, just for a moment to really drink in the landscape. The turquoise waters are incredibly picturesque when viewed from above, just so you know. You might even catch sight of some local wildlife, too. I believe I saw a kestrel hovering overhead looking for its lunch!

Don’t rush, basically. Actually, savor it, too. After all, this portion of the adventure sets the scene in a great way for all of the excitement to come, just a heads up.

The Abseiling Experience

Estany D'en Mas Abseiling

Next comes the abseiling, or rappelling as others call it – something I’m really saying you have to prepare yourself for! If you’re new to abseiling, well it could seem very frightening at first, to be honest. That being said, the guides truly were brilliant and gave clear, easy-to-follow directions, so that’s something that will relieve some worry. Before I knew it, that is I was geared up and ready to get started!

The feeling as you lean back over the edge can almost take your breath away, in some respects. Once you get going, I believe it is surprisingly exhilarating, anyway. With the sea down below, and that’s all you really can see, too. I found that it actually felt quite liberating descending the rock face, basically.

The length of the abseil will give you more than an adrenaline rush; in a way, it gives you one quite unforgettable view, in particular if you’re fond of this sort of outdoor activity. Trust me, getting past any fears that you might have really will be totally worth it!

Exploring the Sea Cave

Estany D'en Mas Sea Cave

Getting into the sea cave is truly a trip highlight! I mean, after abseiling down, you’ll find yourself at sea level right near to the entrance. From there you go in, just to make it clear. I mean, swimming into the cave is truly impressive. Remember to watch your head!

Once inside, basically the water is beautifully clear. With just a wetsuit and life vest (if you need) all of the light reflecting onto the cave walls creates a really amazing grotto atmosphere, too, I believe. Basically, if you’re able to, take a waterproof camera with you! Basically, some shots in there really would be wonderful keepsakes, that’s if you love collecting photos.

Exploring, that is while floating serenely is really an calming experience after the thrill of the abseil. Take a short amount of time just for a little reflection there! Listen to the waves lapping at the cave walls. It’s actually a little world away from what many know!

What to bring with you

Estany D'en Mas Gear

I believe I would suggest preparing your trip carefully if you don’t want to waste time with buying gear later. Some things, I mean like sturdy hiking shoes, are really quite essential for the coastal hike. Then, just add your swimwear that you’ll want for going into the sea cave, which I imagine will already be on your list anyway!

That’s so that, as well as these items, don’t forget to carry:

  • Sunscreen
  • Hat
  • Lots of water
  • Snacks for a hike
  • Towel

These really will help make sure you stay comfy during the adventure. The operator is really going to give you the gear that you need like a wetsuit, harness, and helmet. Still, actually confirming all is ready ahead is typically worthwhile!

Who is this trip actually perfect for?

Estany D'en Mas Crowd

Anyone that seeks thrill will almost certainly have fun giving this adventure a go. I am really speaking to fit folks who love trying something completely new, too. Still, I feel the less physically-active also could possibly partake as all activities can probably be taken at your own speed.

I believe it will not be great for smaller kids. Older kids should probably be fine as they are more physically-ready. So, consider abseiling and getting into coldish seawater when coming along to see whether your little ones are totally prepared, as it’s usually cold.

Getting There and logistics, so to speak

Estany D'en Mas Location

The meeting point for this adventure typically is at Cala Sa Nau, actually close to Estany D’en Mas, really easy to access by car. Check this point precisely with your operator. I suggest you allow for some travel time. You probably could encounter some traffic, you just never know. Parking is really very close to the beach.

Just in case the closest that the meeting spot isn’t well served via public transport; so it’s really almost certainly best you should look at having a rental car to ensure things can go well. The tour will take three to four hours. The overall length depends on the group size. Then just add how fast people will travel. Consider those times in what you will plan, too.

Alternative Activities Nearby

If, I mean for whatever strange reason, abseiling into sea caves is really not your cup of tea, there are some more things in that specific spot for folks with other interests. You can try some hiking on the GR223 trail. That path also lets you enjoy fantastic scenic clifftop sights, or the beaches at Cala Mitjana that I found were actually a very fantastic spot for swimming, basically. These other experiences provide additional fun with getting into Estany D’en Mas too, just so you know.

Worth it, Basically, to do? My experience there…

My time spent at Estany D’en Mas genuinely became something incredibly unforgettable. To be honest, it pushes you in various ways; getting on top of these personal discomforts, being with nature, and truly taking in the wonderful view from up there, very special, so you know.

It is absolutely worthwhile. You might have similar experiences, actually or at least I hope, really something that stays on the mind sometime later!
