I picked this choice hoping to experience Yala National Park, too it’s almost, you know, as part of a very simple transition between locations. Or so I figured, anyway.
What actually happened in real life? Well, as it turned out, like your, the pick-up was timely, right? Very punctual. We were shepherded into a van, which, truthfully, had actually seen better days. It seemed fairly worn. It didn’t seem like I had time to really inspect it when they moved us inside though, if that makes sense, basically. That said, what I actually noticed quite fast was the distinct lack of, just honestly, legroom, and that there was minimal air conditioning. You get what you pay for, I suppose, really.
Hitting the Road, sort of, to Yala
The initial stretch of the trip was, actually, uneventful. What I mean by that is we simply just drove. The driver’s abilities, those were good, very. So you’ll have that as something to think about in terms of weighing out, maybe, the slightly bumped-up prices against, arguably, potentially worse drivers. However, the comfort levels weren’t ideal. A little cramped seating arrangement didn’t do any wonders, naturally. That might’ve helped give me a very slightly elevated mood in what I can only call the “pre-safari” experiences, you know? I was actually in anticipation for what was coming, right?
There was one, you know, saving grace: the views. Sri Lanka, to be fair, it actually is stunning, really, with rolling hills slowly flattening, right? It did change into, maybe, a coastal landscape. Being able to gaze out the window took my mind off, arguably, my aching knees, I think.

The ride got really bumpy. Which is what to expect from, seemingly, an off road excursion of this type, right? Make certain you come prepared for dust and sun, yeah? Like sunscreen, a hat and, you know, water. Remember to just, literally, prepare. Actually, I noticed lots of tourists getting red as the sun rose higher into the sky above the plains.
Drop-off Dramas
Okay, now here is where the wheels nearly, virtually, came off, okay? The shuttle was supposed to, just frankly, drop everyone off at their selected destinations down the coast – Tangalle, Mirissa and Galle, seemingly, being the main spots, alright?
The initial plan wasn’t the thing that ended up happening, if that is at all easy to follow. The transport, anyway, didn’t directly go to each of the destinations. Or rather, they wanted an extra charge. So some people could take alternate transportation, say tuk tuks. Very few actually got dropped off directly at the location they assumed they were going to, okay? It wasn’t what the booking stated and also this brought about, obviously, frustration and also added, literally, unforeseen costs to everyone’s trips, it seems.
