Edinburgh Old Town Tour: Review & Tips with Castle Entry

Edinburgh’s Old Town, too, it’s almost like stepping into a storybook, is that right? Cobblestone streets twist and turn, very old buildings stand tall, and there’s this sort of, well a special sort of feel, right? Recently, very recently, I had a bit of a chance to amble about this part of Scotland’s capital. Actually, a walking tour with Edinburgh Castle access thrown in was just what I did! I’m going to share all my thoughts with you. Join me as I look back at some amazing moments from the streets of Edinburgh.

Setting the Stage: What to Anticipate

Royal Mile Edinburgh

So, the ‘Edinburgh Old Town Walking Tour with Castle Entry’, this package isn’t just, actually, like your typical tour. You get the Old Town’s history served up on a platter. However you also get to finish up by seeing Edinburgh Castle. This visit involves both outdoor walking portions and some peeks inside famous sites, more or less, typically lasting about 3 hours. You know, depending on the pace, the guides typically are history grads who just know everything. They really just have these incredible facts to share. We should consider comfy shoes, certainly. I’d say prepare to hear tales that are a bit gruesome. Be ready too it’s almost like listening to folklore in the form of history.

A Walk Through Time: Highlights from the Old Town

Grassmarket Edinburgh

The tour is very much centered, arguably, on the Royal Mile, it could be, and it’s the Old Town’s most well-known street. Our guide made sure we heard about the history involving closes, very narrow alleyways. They really give you, just, a very, very great look back. Places, usually like St. Giles’ Cathedral, also formed part of our path. A building that has witnessed loads! Very different parts of Scotland’s religious tale, that is, if you think about it. I personally enjoyed hearing more about the Grassmarket. Back then this open space, sometimes, actually served as a place of execution. The tour is arguably a good option if you wish to peek into parts of Edinburgh’s past, right?

Edinburgh Castle: A Majestic Finale

Edinburgh Castle Entrance

The entry portion, so too it’s almost Edinburgh Castle, tends to be quite rewarding, is that right? I actually feel like all those views of the city are like a reward. Viewing the Crown Jewels and the Stone of Destiny might be of interest to some too, actually. Yet, very personally I was blown away, literally, I suppose, when visiting St Margaret’s Chapel. Which apparently tends to be, in fact, Edinburgh’s oldest structure. The guides can tell you many things with great history too, I noted. Be aware that lots of walking around is what it involves too, actually. And also be sure you come with proper clothing for every climate and condition.

The Guide Makes the Tour

Edinburgh Walking Tour Guide

Anyway, I guess for this type of tour, it is more or less the guide that really is the thing that helps it come alive, arguably? Our guide, just like other guides, actually, he had this true love for his home town and all that had occurred there, alright? The way he told tales, it felt seemingly like things came to life right before my eyes. They often were, anyway, really funny, but he definitely kept things focused and he really responded when questions were thrown his direction, basically, right? A knowledgeable, that is if I am saying, guide is really just the difference in between an OK walk and something awesome to do. It’s definitely something to keep in mind.
