Detailed Review: Jodhpur to Udaipur Trip Via Ranakpur & Kumbhalgarh

Planning a trip from Jodhpur to Udaipur? So, too it’s a super scenic route. And really, rather than just zipping straight there, you can actually make it an unforgettable adventure by squeezing in stops at the stunning Ranakpur Temple and the historical Kumbhalgarh Fort. This review is based on my personal experience, so it should give you all the helpful insights you need to plan your own amazing trip.

Why This Route? It’s More Than Just Point A to Point B

You might be thinking, why not just take the direct route from Jodhpur to Udaipur? As a matter of fact, adding Ranakpur and Kumbhalgarh really turns a simple transfer into a full-blown cultural experience. Basically, the drive itself is super beautiful. We found the landscape changed dramatically as we went. What with, moving from the arid scenery around Jodhpur to the greener, hillier areas near Kumbhalgarh and Udaipur. Arguably, the chance to visit two amazing historical and architectural gems made it totally worthwhile.

Ranakpur Temple: A Marvel of Jain Architecture

First off, the Ranakpur Jain Temple. That, to be honest, was a real highlight of the trip. Dedicated to Lord Adinatha, it’s a sprawling complex supported by over 1,444 intricately carved marble pillars, yet no two are seemingly alike! I mean, actually wandering through the temple felt like stepping into a totally different kind of time, so we soaked up the peace and quiet of the place, admiring the super impressive craftsmanship. We definitely suggest hiring a guide. The reason is that you can really learn about the rich history and religious significance of the temple. One more thing, make sure to dress respectfully, or be prepared to remove your shoes before entering.

Kumbhalgarh Fort: Scaling the Walls of History

After Ranakpur, it was off to Kumbhalgarh Fort, and what with it’s around an hour’s drive away. This fort has some impressively long walls, that stretch for about 36 kilometers, what with it’s often referred to as the Great Wall of India. So the views from the top were super spectacular, giving us sweeping panoramas of the surrounding Aravalli hills. As a matter of fact, exploring the fort took us a few hours. Anyway, there was a lot to see, including temples, palaces, and gardens. If you get the chance, anyway, try to catch the light and sound show in the evening. As I was saying, it really brings the history of the fort to life.

Planning Your Trip: Getting from Jodhpur to Udaipur

Okay, so you’re all excited to start planning your trip, then? The most comfy way to do this trip, for example, is to hire a car with a driver. So, too it’s quite reasonably priced. Plus, having a driver really means you can chill and soak up the scenery without the stress of getting around. If you’re on a budget, anyway, buses are an option, still they tend to be less convenient and pretty time-consuming. And remember to factor in travel time between Jodhpur, Ranakpur, Kumbhalgarh, and Udaipur. A matter of fact, I suggest breaking up the trip into two days, especially so you’re not rushing. It’s almost as if one day for Ranakpur and Kumbhalgarh, and then another day to get to Udaipur works really well.

Accommodation: Where to Stay Along the Way

There are different choices when you decide about places to stay, right? Around Ranakpur and Kumbhalgarh you’ll find several hotels and resorts that, frankly, will cater to different budgets. The thing is, that staying in this area is really a relaxing experience, what with being surrounded by all the countryside and, honestly, so far away from the bustle of the towns. I would say it is advisable to book in advance. And this is especially so during the peak tourist season.

Food, Glorious Food: Savoring the Flavors of Rajasthan

No trip to Rajasthan is finished without sampling the area cuisine! Along the way, that is, there are tons of places to eat local food, and that will tempt you. A little bit of the traditional dals and baatis, what with that’s one dish to try. Don’t hesitate, frankly, to ask for recommendations. I suggest the small, local restaurants. Anyway, they tend to serve the most traditional dishes.

What to Pack: Getting Ready for Your Rajasthan Adventure

The weather in Rajasthan is pretty hot, specially so during the summer months. Yet, pack light, airy clothes, plus sunscreen and a hat. That, I think, is a must! Comfy walking shoes are really important. I mean you’ll do tons of walking exploring temples and forts. Finally, and that goes without saying, remember your camera. So you capture all the gorgeous scenery!
