Detailed Review: Buggy Adventure, Spice Tour & ‘The Rock’ Dinner

Okay, so you’re thinking about going on that Buggy Adventure, Spice Tour, and dinner thing at ‘The Rock’ while you’re visiting Zanzibar? Is that right? Very cool! Hopefully this gives you a solid idea of what to expect. I’m not joking; this could be very awesome!

The Thrill of the Buggy Adventure

Buggy Driving Adventure

Basically, the Buggy Adventure is totally a blast if you like, like, bumping around. Arguably, this isn’t your gently-down-the-stream sort of outing; so you’re gonna be hitting some rough patches. The buggies themselves are pretty, kind of simple to operate, which actually helps you concentrate on dodging potholes, chickens, or anything you happen to come across! That is, you will be navigating through little villages, past banana and palm trees—so you are seeing the “real” Zanzibar. Fairly cool!

As a matter of fact, one minute you’re cruising along smooth roads, next, like that, you’re churning through muddy puddles! So get prepared to get very messy, perhaps bring a scarf or a bandana to cover your face – the dust and dirt, while adding to the experience, is no joke. Remember to put on some older clothes and shoes, because it will definitely get dirty, almost to the point of not being able to save the material anymore, it’s like being down in the engine yourself!. Still, this is easily among the funnest things that I have ever done in my entire life.

Tips for Buggy Success

Buggy Driving tips

Arguably, these quick tips may greatly increase your chance of survival on this crazy tour:

  • Dress the Part: Don’t even think about wearing white or anything that you care about. This really is a messy activity.
  • Sunglasses Are Key: Protecting your eyes from dust is super important. So you might want to consider some sturdy sunglasses.
  • Listen to the Guide: Yeah, they’re not just there for the scenery. Pay attention to their instructions, as they usually know where all the big potholes are!
  • Bring Water: It might seem really very obvious, however, you’d be surprised by how thirsty you can get. Like you were living in a desert!.

The Aromatic Spice Tour

Zanzibar Spice Tour

By the way, after the buggy adventure, you are immediately transported to a totally different world. So the spice tour! That’s more of a laid-back, educational experience, which also helps to cool down after your wild buggy experience. Arguably, the air’s scented with all sorts of fragrant spices and fruits, that, to me, smelled pretty dang great. Basically, you get walked around a spice plantation while the guide points out, like, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg… the usual suspects. As a matter of fact, they’ll also pick stuff right off the trees so you can try them. Very nice.

Basically, the guides here are super knowledgeable and can tell you everything you want to know, well, almost anything, about how the spices are grown and used. Arguably, it’s kind of interesting to see where the spices you get at the grocery actually come from. It could be because I am originally from a place where spices are nothing more than different colors in containers in supermarkets. Pretty cool if you care about where food originates!

Spice Tour Highlights

Spice tour highlights

  • Sampling Spices: Clearly, this one is pretty self-explanatory. So prepare to have your taste buds awakened.
  • Learning About Uses: This includes not just cooking but also medicinal and cosmetic purposes!
  • Spice Shopping: Of course, they have a little market set up at the end, so bring some cash if you are in the mood to buy something, because those items cannot be bought at a department store around your corner!.
  • Climbing Coconut Tree: Usually there is an acrobat up for hire!. So you could see them perform in exchange for tips, so have your dollar bills ready!.

Dinner at ‘The Rock’ Restaurant

The Rock Restaurant Zanzibar

Okay, the final stop? Very cool: Dinner at The Rock. It’s a restaurant basically plunked on a rock right out in the ocean. Almost like nowhere I have ever seen. Getting there? Very exciting: depending on the tide, you might be able to walk or need a quick boat ride. In fact, arriving when the sun is beginning to dip is the way to arrive as this creates stunning scenery, that looks like coming out of an artsy film.

By the way, the restaurant itself isn’t too huge, so it feels cozy and, just a little, exclusive. Actually, the food is mostly seafood. So I definitely went with that, and I remember being quite pleased with my lobster. Just perfect after all that crazy adventure and learning!. Actually, it’s more about the total experience than the, say, Michelin-star cuisine, the location alone will make this a dinner you won’t soon forget.

Savoring The Rock Experience

The Rock Experience

  • The Location: Extremely photogenic, clearly make sure your camera is charged.
  • The Seafood: Really very fresh, and simply prepared, so you get that ocean flavor!.
  • The Ambiance: Basically, quite romantic, it’s great for couples, although you may wish you bring your date for this.
  • The Tide: Actually, try to time your reservation around sunset at high tide, so, that’s a winning combination!

Final Thoughts on This Trio

Adventure Trio

Anyway, putting all of these elements together actually make a long, full day of activity. Argrably it’s pretty varied, which will keep things fresh. If you want to see more than just your resort or hotel and experience what Zanzibar is very much about, you need to consider this option!. Basically, it really could be a very memorable adventure! I hope this helps!

Know Before You Go

before you go

So just a few last minute suggestions for getting the most out of this. In fact, I always advise checking the following:

  • Booking Ahead: Specifically, The Rock Restaurant can be really popular, that you will need reservations for it!
  • What to Bring: Of course, remember your sunscreen, camera, cash for tips and souvenirs, and that sense of adventure!.
  • Physical Fitness: Obviously the buggy tour can be a bit physically demanding due to the terrain, so maybe bear that in mind if you may or may not have back issues!

Hopefully all that can improve your adventure when you give that one a try!. In fact, maybe it is going to be the experience of a lifetime for you!.
