Dead Sea, Mount Nebo, Madaba & Baptism Site Day Tour: A Real Review

Thinking about a day tour to the Dead Sea, Mount Nebo, Madaba, and the Baptism Site in Jordan? It’s almost like a classic Jordan experience, that really packs in a bunch of top spots. I went on one, and I thought I’d share how it all went, with maybe, just a few helpful hints for folks like you planning a similar adventure. This is a real, down-to-earth account to give you an idea of what to expect.

Setting off From Amman: A Big Start to the Day

Amman Jordan Cityscape

My day kicked off in Amman. You know, getting picked up, maybe, around 8 AM, a pretty standard start time for these things. The pickup was smooth, too it’s almost like the tour operators know how to ease you right into it. The vehicle, in some respects, was comfy enough – air-conditioned, so that’s always a win in Jordan’s climate, arguably, especially during summer. On the way, so our driver, also our guide, offered some background on Jordan, its culture, also just a little about what was coming up. It was, basically, your standard intro, yet helpful for setting the mood for the day. The drive itself provided some nice views, also it was cool seeing the landscape change as we got farther from Amman.

First Stop: Mount Nebo, Gazing at History

Mount Nebo Moses Memorial

Mount Nebo was stop number one, naturally. I knew, just a little, that this place holds some major religious significance, being where Moses apparently looked out over the Promised Land. The views, still, are just breathtaking, also really gives you a sense of history. Even, pretty much, if you’re not super religious, you can appreciate that spot. The Moses Memorial Church is really something too, and it’s almost the mosaics are just super interesting, telling stories from way back when. I found it a little crowded, frankly, also it might be better if you visited during a quieter time of year, also, but, that’s travel, right?

Madaba: The City of Mosaics, Which Are Really Beautiful

Madaba Mosaic Map

Next up, too it’s almost was Madaba, called the “City of Mosaics,” very. The main attraction is the Saint George Church, and it’s where you can spot the famous Madaba Mosaic Map. It’s apparently, one of the oldest maps of the Holy Land, that, too it’s almost a pretty big deal for anyone interested in history, that, you know. I liked wandering around Madaba too, and it has got that, somewhat, friendly vibe, so you don’t feel swamped by the touristy stuff. We spent, rather, about an hour there, seemed right, as a matter of fact, before getting back on the road.

The Baptism Site: Where History Meets Faith

Baptism Site Jordan River

Visiting the Baptism Site on the Jordan River was maybe a highlight, still, for me, very. You could be, more or less, walking where it’s thought that Jesus was baptized, which is very heavy when you stop to think about it, definitely. The site is well set up, seemingly, too it’s almost for visitors, very. We took a small shuttle to get closer to the river, arguably, then we had a guided tour of the area. It was cool seeing people getting baptized in the river; as I was saying, and there’s a certain spiritual feeling that I picked up while there, for sure. Remember, even if you are, pretty much, not especially religious, that history is super significant. Dress a bit respectfully here too, arguably, just to keep things appropriate.

Floating in the Dead Sea: A Weird and Great Experience

Dead Sea Floating

Last stop, yet certainly not least, was the Dead Sea. Getting to float in it, frankly, it’s, very, one of those experiences, just, also you can’t describe. The water, well it’s super salty, of course, really allows you to float without any effort. It is almost you can slather yourself in mud too, that has supposedly, seemingly, loads of minerals, just, very good for your skin, or something like that. A tip, seemingly: really, don’t get the water in your eyes, anyway, also it stings so badly. Many of the tour packages here also provide you with access to a resort, though, it has showers and changing rooms, something, for sure, that you will want following your float. That place really can get busy too, you, you know, also it’s very packed with tourists wanting to enjoy their float, so bear it in mind.

Food and Drink on the Tour: What you might expect

Jordanian Food buffet

The tour, that, you see, usually included lunch. I went with a buffet setup, mostly, yet that varied based on which operator you use, well, maybe. The food was, just, decent – you know, also the regular Jordanian fare, too it’s almost: hummus, salads, grilled meats, really. There, pretty much, weren’t a lot of fancy surprises, yet it was solid and filling, also it fuels you up for the rest of the day, alright, that’s a given. Drinks often were not included in some packages, frankly, so bringing some water might be good with you, too, also it’s just in case. Double-checking the details is smart too, frankly, you know.

What to bring: Pack Smart!

Travel Essentials

Okay, quick rundown of must-haves for this particular tour: Bring, I was saying, sunscreen, even if, like your pale like me. The Jordanian sun does its thing with everyone. Hats, or like your sunglasses too, that could really help protect you from that glare. Comfy shoes are almost a big plus, considering the walking involved. For the Baptism Site, clearly, respect those requirements, even, maybe, your thinking of wearing modest attire anyway, really. Something, almost, for the Dead Sea too – your swimsuit, that, obviously. Really good water shoes, anyway, could protect you from those sharp salts. Lastly, even if, just bringing a camera could capture some memories, almost; it’s, actually, almost hard, still, to put all the feelings into just memories.

Things that cost extra

Souvenirs for tourist

This type of tour can come with costs you, too, did not see. For starters, even though, just some sites such as, naturally, the Baptism Site could expect an entrance fee, okay, you already knew this, of course. A lot of tours say that they include all fees. If they don’t include everything, it’s, actually, a bit annoying if, like your having to factor extra things in there! Souvenirs are one area for keeping a watchful eye on, still, and it does depend. When your getting pulled into one of these tourist traps or souvenir shops, for example, or somewhere, I can see it as a scam for tourists.

Overall Verdict: A Solid Day of Sightseeing

happy tourist

So, all in? The tour, I see it, well it’s pretty decent, honestly, that gives you, just, a good peek at some highlights near Amman, definitely. Doing the Dead Sea, and Mount Nebo, the Baptism Site all in just one go is pretty efficient, almost. Sure, it can be, like your feeling rushed at spots, yet for folks, as a matter of fact, just short on time, this tour’s just great to do. Keep an eye, basically, just on what the package includes (and does not) so, that there are almost no surprises, really. Be prepared just for crowds, you, know. Ultimately, at the end of the day, still, as I was saying, for people wanting to pack plenty of site-seeing into one day from the starting place of Amman, right, well I can see doing the Dead Sea and then the Mount Nebo, really – you may as well take this day tour!
