Dalat City Tour: Honest Review of Mario Kart & Cable Car Adventure
Thinking about a trip to Dalat, Vietnam? It’s almost impossible to miss the buzz around the Dalat City Tour, especially the one that combines the thrill of a Mario Kart-style alpine coaster with the scenic views from the cable car. But, is it actually worth your money and your time? I mean, let’s get real for a minute. We are gonna take a look at what this tour has to give, share a bit about my experiences, and then, help you make a well-informed choice, based on whether this tour is the great fit for you.
Setting the Stage: What to Expect
Dalat, it’s pretty cool, it is often called the “City of Eternal Spring,” so right away that gives you an idea of its kind climate. This means you should anticipate pleasant weather pretty much any time you visit. I mean, pretty nice, right? The city is, just a little bit, known for its French colonial history, which gives it its own unique vibe. When you see some of the architecture there, and walk by these buildings it may very well make you think of walking around in some parts of Europe! Okay, that’s a stretch, but there’s certainly some of those elements! A tour which includes the cable car and the alpine coaster tends to be the pretty touristy route, and that means you should expect places that are rather crowded. Still, they could be experiences you’d hate to miss.
The Cable Car Experience: A View from the Top
Okay, so let’s just jump right into the Dalat cable car ride. Just so you know, the cable car, well, it gives you one of those fantastic panoramic views of Dalat and its nearby landscape. As I was saying, the ride itself takes about 10 to 15 minutes, so plenty of time to just absorb it all, very slowly. When you go up that way, you go to the Truc Lam Pagoda, one of the better-known zen monasteries around the place. Some of the visitors mention that it’s very peaceful and really calm. To be honest, I thought that the views during the ride up were the best part. The Pagoda, that’s okay too. I’d recommend the cable car because of the landscapes that are literally worth a snapshot!
What I Liked:
- Scenic Views: Is that Dalat? I really, really enjoyed that sprawling view as we headed upwards, just as we reached the top of the city.
- Convenience: It almost feels that this cable car just gives that perfect gateway, right to Truc Lam Pagoda.
Things to Keep in Mind:
- Crowds: It’s almost to be expected, that you encounter plenty of the other travelers, particularly through peak season; this can really just test your patience.
- Weather Dependent: If it is just pouring down rain, so the views won’t be nearly just as great, or, really safe either!
Mario Kart Alpine Coaster: An Adventure Ride
Here’s the fun part. Datanla Falls Alpine Coaster—or, as most people have been saying, the “Mario Kart” ride— it could be a bit like this little thrilling ride down those tracks through a part of jungle and all kinds of natural landscape. Anyway, you get into a small cart; you do have control over your speed too. The ups? So really fast parts that feel incredibly thrilling! Is that really, pretty amazing?
Highlights:
- Thrill Factor: So zipping down the tracks? Seriously great adrenaline rush!
- Control: So you will adjust your cart, so you just cruise at your own tempo.
Considerations:
- Queue Times: Because this has been so popular, be ready to queue!
- Safety: Always listen to some of those instructions so you make sure you are safe!

To see more things in one trip, try and plan an itinerary that maximizes the number of must-see locations within a reasonable time frame. Early visits have better access to some peaceful attractions, to me, that kind of justifies all the hustle and waking up early. And some research always works, just read about some tour restrictions. The sun over there will tan your skin too quickly, always have sunscreen on!

Now with that, a reminder: keep in mind there will be too many tourists.
