Chamarel Mauritius Tour: A Personal & Helpful Review

So, you’re thinking about heading to Mauritius, maybe? Like your researching the “Chamarel, Southwest Mauritius Private Guided Day Tour”? Well, that’s really what brings us here, isn’t it? Instead of just throwing facts your way, I’m gonna walk you through my experience, like your sharing notes with a friend. I think, by the time you get to the end, you should have a much better idea if this tour is the right fit for you.

Why Chamarel? Giving You Some Context

Seven Colored Earth

Before we get into the details of the tour itself, maybe you are thinking: why Chamarel at all? You know, Mauritius has gorgeous beaches all around, and probably the resort you have booked has you more than taken care of already. Fair enough, to be fair. Though, like you, I found myself wanting something beyond just lounging by the pool; I really craved a little bit of that real Mauritius. And that’s very what Chamarel delivers.

Chamarel, you see, is up in the highlands, kind of southwest area. It’s known for a few really neat things. There is the Seven Coloured Earth Geopark, I should point out; a geological wonder, arguably. The Chamarel Waterfall, apparently; is really breathtaking too it’s almost. Then there is a rum distillery; Chamarel has very charming village vibes too. All this mixed with unbelievable views. The tour gives you a good taste of all this.

Booking and Getting Started: Making Plans

Booking a tour

Okay, that sounds great, but what should you really do? I found this tour on one of those travel websites, just a quick look. I tend to go for private tours just a bit, because that allows me to customize stuff to suit what my personal pace. Anyhow, I booked it; the process was smooth as can be, usually, very quick.

Just so you’re prepared; I should say that communication from the tour operator before the tour wasn’t terrific; I’d almost suggest they could really work on that bit. Any doubts I had totally vanished once I actually met the guide, though. Like, he was early (that’s very almost unheard of!), just a quick moment for a friendly, personable vibe.

The Seven Coloured Earth Geopark: Quite the Sight

Chamarel Geopark

So, our very first stop? That’s the Seven Coloured Earth Geopark, and that’s really the highlight for most folks, that’s typically what I have found. Let me paint you a little picture. It is unlike anything you have likely seen before. Think of it like rolling hills of sand dunes, but that the sand has streaks of red, brown, violet, green, and blue, for example.

That whole effect, apparently, is created by volcanic rock that have been cooled but that are now weathered, changing into clay minerals. This makes an almost other worldly vibe. We learned that the different colors you see actually happen because of varying amounts of things such as iron and aluminum, for instance. But that the most striking thing is that if you mix the colored earth, it will eventually settle into separate layers. We also visited the tortoise pen; so that’s neat if you are partial to seeing some giants.

Chamarel Waterfall: Nature’s Showstopper

Chamarel Waterfall

Next up; arguably the Chamarel Waterfall! It is very nearby that seven coloured earth, just a brief drive from there. If I am being candid, this one packs that punch. You get a couple viewpoints to check out that waterfall from up high, which lets you enjoy that scale of the thing and so on. And yes, I agree, the photos truly don’t do that justice. With that, I found that is probably what most people have said, too.

It’s is that tallest waterfall in Mauritius too, with waters plummeting a big drop of nearly 100 meters (about 328 feet). The rocks around, by the way, are volcanic and framed just very well by that greenery. It’s something to stare at just a little.

Chamarel Rum Distillery: For Giving You a Different Kind of “Taste”

Chamarel Rum Distillery

Okay, time for that something grown up; time for the Chamarel Rum Distillery, basically. So, I’m just very much laying it out there; I do appreciate sampling some rum, occasionally. However, whether it’s like your usual scene or you aren’t as keen; that distillery is worth having that peek at.

It is quite interesting to get that taste (no pun meant) how they do locally produce rum straight from the sugarcane fields found all around them. They’ll show you the actual process from sugarcane to bottle; and even how they control things like fermentation and distillation just slightly. That area, if you have very rarely been to something quite that big, really will impress you too.

At that end you can probably taste a few rums (at that visitor’s center), I should mention. Now I found out that rums there actually were on offer from lighter, very crisp versions, to a spiced sort. I found myself partial to just a sip or two to that vanilla rum that the store offered, even.

The Food: Finding Flavours in Chamarel

Mauritian cuisine

Okay so; your stomach will probably want some food, that’s typically how it all turns out. Most tours, arguably, have lunch provided or would stop at a well reviewed location for you to pick that up, usually very tasty. What I actually really liked was that our guide had just the greatest suggestion; he gave me the real skinny and showed a locally owned joint you may really like.

While you will spot some other, much fancier places geared almost for tourists, this spot truly did highlight creole cooking that was both very affordable, but, probably, amazing. Like your I ended up sampling some rougaille; I can vouch that it had a taste profile all it’s very own! Basically I was glad that my taste for adventure landed with good tasting cuisine.

What I Loved and What Could Be Better: Personal Reflections

review

Now for things that worked quite greatly; things that weren’t very as fab. Our guide actually was top notch; apparently, if I could hire that fellow again I definitely should. Just so that he offered local experiences; arguably. And I should say he gave great history.

The Seven Coloured Earth I found really was unique; one of a kind probably! But like you, expect tourist crowds during peak times, usually I have noticed a whole gang of them on various days too.

The one small downside for the booking portion came prior when there was minimal contact before we got things moving on that day. Now with this thing mentioned maybe that will come out looking improved over these months here now.

Is the Chamarel Tour “Worth It?” (My recommendation)

Worth It

Okay so! To those thinking along similar lines if this whole ‘Chamarel Tour’ deserves consideration? It may; very often, I should say, “yes.” When the beaches could possibly prove somewhat “more that the same as that one time,” you should see, the island does offer all so vastly much.

You might want all or probably even almost an alternative if this “cookie cutter all-inclusive” sounds so so ho-hum? At that same instant does a one off local excursion like Chamarel resonate deeper than sipping yet those almost countless, all included coladas back poolside so so effortlessly too much?! It can just somewhat do so…

Chamarel does present landscapes just kind of other than the everyday typical sand resort destination found by you here previously; those Seven Coloured Earths aren’t at that every ocean paradise it’s almost. Likewise are chances such as seeing large cascading falls – then afterwards some distinct tastes over at those rum making companies are more to look at from that overall time here!

So Here Are The Main Insights

  • A Private Chamarel visit proves so so greatly personalized giving very unique experiences
  • A Geopark having those Seven Coloured Earth zones has no comparison elsewhere.
  • Remember though? Communication comes previously from “that company’s” group; needs slightly some polish I did mention; arguably.
  • Consider having your local contact bring to one spot close where food will come tasting; incredibly fantastic.
  • If so-so touristy feelings exist while close? Going early might then lessen those types right before many get around towards going likewise around there similarly likewise then etc

In Mauritius, going here shows almost exactly like stepping just more towards “a thing.” Hopefully something like exactly something which “my article provided above does better portray for just the trip being decided!” Have super adventures!!!
