Landing in Salaverry, Peru, as part of a cruise, I was eager to dig deep into some real local flavor. Very distinct people, too; the vendors were really interactive, you know, too; seemingly they enjoy sharing information about their items, so. Also they were willing to suggest items to get, that is, too.
As they talked, clearly, the guides explained, just, the roots of various ingredients, pointing out, for instance, types of chili peppers. We don’t know them that well, do we, at the stores. That created such an experience that I just didn’t expect, you know, which, for instance, tied, maybe, right into what ceviche’s really all about. Instead, that connection could, potentially, have been totally glossed over! What I mean is, clearly, tasting some local fruit was so much better when you could, arguably, discover something more about the region, that is.
