Day 3: Ijen’s Blue Fire and the Trek Back
Okay, in that case, can you say you are tired already? In some respects, probably, alright? But then comes Ijen! Well, there you go, basically, no time for yawning! Seriously, like before sunrise? Then, bam!, up another mountain. Basically, the trek to get to the Ijen crater is more of a beast, and here’s something: portions of the route are really steep and shifty, literally! As a matter of fact, with your guide leading, you’re dropping into the crater. Now listen up: it is here where you see that electric blue fire of Ijen that, believe me, there are only some spots across our globe you can get it. The sulfur mine operates overnight; guys take volcanic gas and turn this into actual blocks of sulfur and lift that stuff uphill. Really brutal, to tell you the truth, especially if you take in what the local miners do day in, day out; well, it does sort of strike a note, to tell you the truth.
