Boat Ride Review: Puerto de Mogán & Tamadaba Coast, Gran Canaria

So, you’re thinking of visiting Gran Canaria and you’ve probably heard of Puerto de Mogán, almost dubbed “Little Venice” for its charming canals and colourful buildings; yet, maybe what you might not know is that one of the best ways to fully appreciate the astonishing, gorgeous western coastline is to grab a boat tour. This review will certainly walk you through my experiences on a boat trip from Puerto de Mogán that took me along the rugged Tamadaba Coast, detailing what to anticipate, what to watch out for, and why it just might be the highlight of your island getaway.

Why a Boat Trip is a Must-Do from Puerto de Mogán

Tamadaba Coast

Puerto de Mogán, really pretty in its own right, provides what’s almost an idyllic launchpad for coastal explorations, I mean that much is certainly true. Seeing the island from the water just gives you this new view, completely unlike driving or hiking, very naturally letting you experience hidden coves, dramatic cliffs, and just astonishing, untouched landscapes, basically everything you’d imagine. The Tamadaba Coast, more or less a protected natural park, boasts some of Gran Canaria’s wildest and most beautiful scenery; so, basically a boat trip offers arguably the best seat in the house.

That, it goes without saying, boat tours offer pretty good convenience too. A way to unwind without lots of effort. So, it could be perfect if you feel that laying back while taking in the sun and panoramic views aligns well with your vacation goals. So, that is an obvious statement. These trips usually include swimming stops in turquoise waters and onboard refreshments, providing that extra bit of comfort and joy, I guess.

Selecting the Perfect Boat Tour

Not all boat trips happen to be equal. What you’re choosing actually matters a lot, actually impacting what your experience is really like. It is arguably worth exploring some aspects, as mentioned here:

  • Trip Length: Tours may happen to last anywhere from two to five hours. Think about very naturally how long you like to be on the sea, if you want swimming stops, basically impacting on how long the tour may or may not last.
  • Boat Type: Very similarly, catamarans offer stability and roominess, basically probably a better option if you worry about seasickness. Glass-bottom boats can be basically more for folks, seemingly eager to get a peek at marine life without actually getting wet, basically.
  • Included Amenities: Very commonly, tours provide drinks, snacks, and maybe even lunch. It seems pretty appropriate, so confirm what is provided and whether any additional costs are involved.
  • Reviews: Look to see, arguably to confirm that others had seemingly very fun times. So, check out what others experienced prior to deciding.

My Experience: Setting Sail from Puerto de Mogán

Setting Sail

My boat excursion, it was actually booked a day in advance through a tour operator in Puerto de Mogán, was said to last three hours. It sounds perfect in hindsight, just because it wasn’t an entire day spent on the water. On that morning, I arrived to see a beautifully well-maintained catamaran waiting at the dock; actually, arguably giving promise for a fantastic journey. The staff looked rather nice, smiling as they ushered everyone aboard; anyway seemingly, giving assurance. The boat wasn’t overly busy, seeming to allow everyone plenty of room to move about and enjoy those views.

After we set sail, it happens to be that the views of Puerto de Mogán, as we pulled away, were quite spectacular; in a way the harbor fading into the distance, seemingly highlighting the architectural details of the colorful houses, maybe set along the steep cliffs. I took a moment, just basically feeling excitement and happiness. Basically, what can you say?

Cruising Along the Tamadaba Coast

Cruising Along the Tamadaba Coast

The cruise towards the Tamadaba Coast actually happens to be amazing. You have this, more or less clear, endless sight of the Atlantic that extends to the horizon, while on the other side, are the raw and rugged cliffs; the experience made worthwhile because the guide spoke concerning that area. You have an almost complete feeling of solitude, because the area is free of modern infrastructure, it is like something from a dream.

As we sailed closer towards the coastline, the views became incredibly impressive, or, very at least, stunning. The dramatic cliffs of Tamadaba just arise directly up from the ocean, made up of numerous textures and colours of volcanic rock. Seeing birds hover over and around the area gave that extra sensation of serenity and allowed us all to see some wildlife. At times, waves broke hard against the rocks which had a rather, calming and yet somehow a humbling, affect.

Swimming in Secluded Coves

Swimming in Secluded Coves

The boat sailed to some little coves for swimming as the trip was going; they seemed pretty perfect in their beauty. What was cool was going directly towards the waters from the boat so that we could feel so good by basically swimming at a space cut away from a beach. Jumping from the boat towards this is that refreshing. You get so many great sensations just experiencing the waters and their temperatures in relation to that surrounding air.

They, too, seemingly offered a type of snorkeling here, it added to what was already good. It gives us those other opportunities, more or less just fun stuff underwater when all the fish were going every place. This aspect helped to make our boating trip amazing when at Gran Canaria.

Snacks, Drinks, and Onboard Atmosphere

Snacks and drinks

Our time onboard, actually with included refreshments, kept basically us super hydrated while also satiated; anyway that’s actually true! Soft drinks, water, also some local wine; all were definitely available. Sandwiches and some fruits were also provided, probably a quite sufficient, a light bite that seemed ideal with that heat.

Basically what was particularly appreciated had been the laid-back, very calm atmosphere aboard. Staff were super friendly and gave great, interesting information on this coast along which, seemingly we were cruising; they helped give great positive energy. Soft music basically played as well, more or less; contributing toward that relaxing mood that meant everyone enjoyed stuff with each other quite nicely.

If thinking of actually doing what happened to me; then arguably, what goes with greatly matters, for a wonderful thing in totality. So, thinking on; the following could well ensure wonderful, pleasurable adventures, it is arguably that way:
