And, basically Wild X offers what they say is an opportunity to experience them in a Jeep. I’m also discussing what the experience looks like and what preparations would basically be useful.

First Impressions and Getting Prepared

Right then, before you get all revved up, you might want to know, like, getting to Atlantis Dunes isn’t really complicated. You can pretty much drive yourself, apparently, or arrange for a ride, too it’s almost like the starting point of any good story, isn’t it? Now, Wild X. So, they handle all the Jeep stuff. But getting your act together? That’s mostly down to you. Make sure to pack, I want to say a shed load, of water. Seriously, you’ll probably need it, especially when the sun’s out. Slather on that sunscreen and grab some sunglasses. You really don’t want to squint all day; very unpleasant. A hat too is also very useful, and wearing clothing you don’t mind getting sand all over. You will definitely find sand in interesting places for weeks later! Arguably, being comfortable will mean enjoying it that much more. Another useful item would basically be a camera to catch your awesome moments. Very, very, very Instagrammable!

Before you even arrive, having, in a way, a quick chat with Wild X to get the rundown could be very helpful. What’s the Jeep model? How does pickup, you know, typically, usually, often, work? Are they running on time? If you, in some respects, know what’s what, you’re pretty much ready to go and ready to enjoy it. You might feel more relaxed and just excited for your outing.

The Jeep Experience: What to Expect

Jeep driving in Atlantis Dunes

So, the star of the show? Definitely the Jeep. If you, like your, thinking this is your average Sunday drive. It’s probably not! In fact, expect something more along the lines of a bouncy rollercoaster, arguably, but, you know, in a Jeep. You get to, or maybe have to, handle this beast yourself, and you might think that this really adds to the adventure, like having proper control of what’s going on.

I do need to give you a heads up though, very little is truly a smooth, peaceful drive. The dunes, in that case, are unforgiving. Think about lots of lurching, some slipping, and maybe even, like your, moments where you wonder if you’re going to make it up that slope. Basically, It’s tough. And if you’ve, in some respects, never done anything like this before? Even more tough. Having someone experienced with you would probably be a benefit. What I found was very great, was that I could do my own thing. Stop to take pictures when I wanted to, or, when the kids needed a drinks break or to let air out of the tyres, I could. Unlike a guided tour, I never felt rushed at all. Overall, I would recommend taking regular short breaks as driving in thick soft sand can take it out of you. If this doesn’t phase you, and if it even sounds good? So, this self-drive is really fun. If not? Then, maybe it would be worth going for a proper tour guide. If your unsure it maybe worth joining someone who is comfortable and that way it may ease any apprehension.

Navigating the Dunes: Tips and Tricks

driving through sand dunes tips

Actually, going head-first without any real knowledge? You could probably end up spending half your time getting stuck. The key trick is that you have to maintain your momentum. In other words, don’t slow down, especially when you’re, like your, going uphill. But don’t go too fast either; you also don’t want to, very, very, end up airborne. Tyre pressure, that really plays a big role. It’s typically, usually, often, recommended that you drop it to about 1.0 bar or so. By increasing the tire surface area this will probably help you ‘float’ on the sand a bit better. If you are a total novice or you lack any form of confidence, it could be helpful to hire a guide for an hour just so they can assist and assist to show the ropes. Also it might be better to only attempt to tackle this with 2 vehicles incase you do have an issue getting stuck. In that case you may be able to tug each other out of any soft spots.

When you find yourself on the crest of a dune, very scary! Before you start heading down, very, very, it’s always useful to take a peek to see what’s coming up. Knowing where to go might just help keep things more exciting than scary, very important. Getting a feel of your Jeep also probably makes a big difference. How does it respond? And how about the gears and the acceleration? You would be surprised about this type of trip that, basically, after an hour or so, you start knowing its behaviors very well.

The Wild X Factor: What Makes Them Different

So, in that case, what’s with Wild X and what really makes them stand out from the crowd? The freedom to just head out solo could really be their big draw. You’re not in a convoy. And you can, by the way, set your speed. You’re also choosing where to stop to play and explore, I guess. You could also decide where to eat or if you fancy chilling on a beautiful dune, you probably can.

It may well be that their Jeeps are pretty decent too. It’s often been well-maintained and reliable, as far as Jeep adventures go. You may get a vehicle that’s, apparently, up to the task of tackling those dunes. They usually include all the, seemingly, necessary gear. You get the safety briefings and that 4×4 talk. All that type of support actually lets you have an enjoyable time, which is ultimately the, well, the point, basically! So, Wild X seems to, sort of, offer the whole package. Is that what you want or need?

Worth It? Weighing the Pros and Cons

pros and cons list

So, the million-dollar question – is this all a worthwhile, thrilling experience? If you, like your, someone who digs adventure. You’re probably pretty much confident behind the wheel. Then yes, it really probably is worth it. The cost. It’s probably a deciding factor. Think, too it’s almost, about it; can you pay for a memorable experience doing it this way? Instead of hiring a normal rental vehicle or just walking the tourist track.

However, if, that, the thought of getting stuck sends shivers down your spine? Maybe, it is typically, usually, often, better to join a guided tour, or in fact, consider an easier stroll somewhere. One possible downside might just be the Jeeps themselves. Although I found mine well-maintained, you may discover that a vehicle takes a beating. This can have a knock on effect to the next users.

Your confidence in sand will probably determine what memories you take away, but its probably also whether it meets the anticipation.

My Recommendations

If you do go ahead, my advice would be that a bit of pre-planning will go along way. Think carefully about others travelling with you as its useful if another in the group knows something about driving a 4×4 in difficult conditions. Make sure everyone knows the rules, if something breaks then you should stop, dont continue.

Try to get some tips from the Wild X team, the route you want to go along or any spots to watch out for. Take 2 vehicles, if one does get stuck then at least you have help for recovery. Consider tyre pressures and deflating to give a bigger area on the sand to drive. Most of all, have a great time.
