Arusha Day Trip: Coffee, Waterfalls & Hot Springs – A Candid Review

Looking for an awesome day out near Arusha? You might just be interested in what I’ve got for you. A Cofeemateruni Falls and Chemka Hot Springs day outing promises a whirlwind of awesome experiences, squeezing in local coffee culture, refreshing waterfall hikes, plus a bit of geothermal soaking, very all into a single, fun-packed day. That’s so true, right? I wanted to give you an honest review, because it’s my job to tell you whether or not it’s worth your precious time and, actually, your cash. You’re trying to weigh it up for yourself, surely? So, here’s my firsthand experience, plus a few, you know, handy tips, which may just make the day all the more worth it.

First Stop: Coffee Plantation Immersion

Coffee Plantation Tanzania

So, the first thing we did was visiting a coffee plantation, which is really quite something. Not just any old visit, mind you. More of a hands-on, how’s-it-really-made adventure. You probably think of it like, a proper ‘bean-to-cup’ experience. Apparently, Cofeemateruni makes a point of sourcing it’s coffee from sustainable farms. You could possibly argue that alone is a solid start. From the start of the plantation outing, everything just became amazing. We took a look around at the bean growing and all the harvesting processes, just learning loads, along the way. You’ll actually get stuck in and get to grind, roast, and brew your own cup, pretty much from start to finish, I’m guessing you know. The taste? Totally and utterly blows the generic stuff out of the park, right? You’ll know once you’ve tasted it. I was actually quite surprised. Buying a bag to take home wasn’t an option; I’d be surprised if you weren’t tempted, because it will give you something amazing to reminisce on when you finally brew that bag when you’re back home.

Materuni Falls: Hike and Refresh

Materuni Waterfalls Tanzania

Okay, so it was after we had finished off the caffeine fix, we were properly fueled, obviously. Then, you might have guessed, it was the next part of the adventure; that was Materuni Falls. In a way, I think the trek up to the waterfall is almost as memorable as seeing the cascade. Just saying. You get to see this area of luscious scenery, local village existence and paths covered by things, too, which were seemingly made for just one or two people, very similar to those awesome hikes that really do have that sense of discovery, as if you were almost transported to a whole different place. Do you know what I mean? So the waterfall itself? Absolutely spectacular, and totally amazing. I would give it 10/10 stars if I could. You are actually allowed to dive in and splash about underneath it; I warn you right now though, it can get very cold but honestly, you should really go for it, since you would certainly miss it. I was revitalized like I haven’t felt in years. What’s really fun about Cofeemateruni is the fact they hire local guides, I’m talking guys and girls from the local villages. This might make the experience even more unique, it’s my opinion, you could just ask them a million questions on what existence is like out there.

Chemka Hot Springs: A Soak in Paradise

Chemka Hot Springs Tanzania

After what may just be an exciting trek, it was time to fully sit back, unwind, as well as chill in Chemka Hot Springs, that’s right. By this stage, I was already running very, very high on life; what else could one even possibly ask for? This area, and it truly is an oasis, has beautifully crystal-clear turquoise water with awesome greenery encompassing the springs. The water really is naturally warm; picture getting into a nice bath on a pretty cold day. To me, it looked just as relaxing as that, alright? So, anyway, the best bit has got to be the “fish pedicure” spots – nature’s very own spa treatment! The surrounding location is definitely Insta-worthy. So don’t you forget your phone. Pack all your camera essentials; I didn’t want you to miss the great, memorable moments that will live rent-free in your mind.

Things I think you should consider Before you Book:

Travel planning

So, that really covers the trip itself; this section might talk about some points worth noting if you’re seriously looking into it, too. Let’s get right to it:

  • What to Wear: When you go to Materuni Waterfalls, consider that it involves a bit of hiking and some of that may just be slippery, comfortable footwear will be your best pal. I’m thinking those good ol’ walking shoes or at least a well solid pair of trainers would most definitely be ideal. You shouldn’t even begin to consider Sandals; I feel as though I can tell you that from past experience.
  • What to Bring: Some things like Sunscreen, insect repellent, swimming gear, along with a towel for when you start feeling a bit peckish. I’m recommending a camera, and that would really enable you to remember this kind of magical beauty for the years to come. You’ll definitely need one.
  • Level of Fitness Required: I’m thinking that hike up to Materuni, well, you shouldn’t let it freak you out; anyone with, perhaps, just a moderate amount of fitness must be perfectly alright, so don’t you be concerned at all, seriously. However, if you are someone that does have kind of serious mobility issues, then it might not be very appropriate; I’d hate for you to ruin a good experience based on a recommendation. I am, in no way, suggesting you shouldn’t embark on awesome adventure activities. All the people should have a fulfilling sense of happiness and contentment.
  • Timing: It may just be best to consider going through the dry season if you were really wanting to consider going on this visit (that’s around June through to October). If you were considering visiting around these times, there really should not be too much rain. Don’t forget your umbrella for the wet seasons. Also you’re gonna have some amazing waterfall snaps if you ever decide to go. Just the most incredible photos!
  • Cost: In the end, all the costs can definitely vary so much based on who you’re reserving from or going through. If you go by a private trip, don’t you forget that may be very expensive than one that is by doing it in a super small little group; I really just hope it goes without actually being said that. Having that said, it really might pay you to look and see if you’re getting all of the stuff, activities and so on included or whether you’ll require some additional cash. At the end of the day, that would really, truly get you by.
  • Safety: One final thing: you should always just listen intently to any local area tour guide directions, always keep your possessions by you. Have someone always to look over them and trust in your gut, don’t start getting distracted easily. You have got this. Do it all in little mini small steps and consider getting help. Don’t get lost out there in this gorgeous landscape of awesome!

Is This Day Trip Really Worth Your Time?

Happy travellers Tanzania

So, to try and cut a very extensive review pretty very short: yeah, wow, for me. As a travel expert myself, a coffee trip blended by Materuni Falls also joined with the great, memorable and absolutely beautiful Chemka Hot Springs becomes more like something else and is an absolute awesome visit I truly couldn’t very recommend anymore than I have above. And remember that; for people who love travel like your very selves, they are all on track in really exploring, tasting a very little cultural piece, not just unwinding but completely and absolutely engaging with a truly amazing part of our globe. What else is actually not to completely enjoy?

Key Takeaways:

  • In Tanzania, you must experience that first hand bean to cup brewing
  • Consider, consider, consider the very cold waters and go ahead and dive in to Materuni. You must.
  • Take yourself, your body and your senses into relaxation that Chemka brings to this entire trio. A super awesome oasis of total bliss.
  • Consider every little tiny thing I recommend on that checklist. Do your small tiny bits. Do things that help in small stages. Don’t ignore things and be happy with all your prep.
  • Travel itself can really bring you to peace with your thoughts and feelings of peace. Bring people into this world; go alone, and remember this world truly is a world to travel. A world to be free with.

Right, let me finish there; safe adventuring to you all and truly bon, bon voyaging across every road you decide to walk, very now or forever!
