Getting Ready for Takeoff

Before all that excitement starts, there’s naturally some prep that you really have to do, and that bit starts well before you find yourself geared up on that mountain edge. What I found, at the end of the day, is that a bunch of different companies provide tandem paragliding in Alanya. After doing some looking around and, more or less, comparing prices and reviews, I opted for one that seemed to have really good safety practices and lots of happy customers. So, just a heads-up, shop around; finding the perfect operator for you actually does matter quite a bit.

The scariest bit is that initial setup. Getting strapped into the harness alongside my pilot – who by the way, seemed really experienced – kind of felt like gearing up for some, well, a space launch. So that feeling may or may not be shared across people. But just the feeling, or just knowing how I was suspended, felt off the ground, just slightly secured into the paraglide, as a matter of fact, might give one or two a little jitters!

That moment you actually leave the ground? Man, it’s just something else. One second you’re standing there, then you’re suddenly gliding smoothly in the air. To the west stretched out Cleopatra Beach, known for its soft, golden sand and, as a matter of fact, clear blue waters. Now, from up there, it actually looked like a postcard, just seemingly too perfect to even be real. Honestly, and as I was saying before, the Mediterranean Sea sparkled in the daylight, and, by the way, you could follow the curve of the coastline, and maybe catch a glimpse of some boats peacefully sailing along. The pilot actually pointed out some interesting spots to me, sort of giving a short aerial tour of Alanya and a very quick history lesson, which only just added to that whole experience. Honestly, they did their homework, or they had some real passion about the area.

The sensation of floating is also surprisingly calm and peaceful, that being the most wonderful bit. All tension disappeared very rapidly, basically being replaced by a feeling of total freedom and just a huge appreciation for the scenery, alright? I even brought a small camera, and very thankfully, captured some awesome pictures and videos from up there; it felt right, getting the memories forever, alright? Yet honestly, no photograph can quite truly capture what that feels like to be floating like that.

The Flight Experience: Thrills and Relaxation

The thing with tandem paragliding is that it’s not just sitting there peacefully admiring the views, even if that’s also part of it. Your pilot might just ask if you’re up for some tricks or, potentially, a little extra excitement, so in that case you could get a couple of spirals or turns; these gave my stomach a bit of a tickle, honestly. They can really dial things up or down as much as you like, that is also up to you, so you’re definitely in control of just how thrilling the adventure becomes.

What really amazed me, in a way, was how quiet it felt up there. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city below, with basically just the sound of the wind and a bit of conversation with my pilot, that’s a world that might take one far away. Now, that quiet really let me soak it all in and really just appreciate nature’s beauty all around, that probably being the realest takeaway of the entire paraglide, arguably. Honestly, even though I’m usually scared of heights, I found that so confidence building, just feeling like a hawk gliding without a flap in the sky.

Depending on your tour package, that whole flight bit may just last anywhere from fifteen to twenty-five minutes. For me it felt like no time at all passed, honestly, since it goes by super fast. It feels just, slightly like you started five seconds ago, and just after, you slowly prepare yourself for landing at Cleopatra Beach, for example. What also made things awesome, really, was how experienced the pilot I had, truly allowing him to steer down calmly, while letting us enjoy every possible moment. At the end of the day, that part made the glide well, an all around win.

Landing on Cleopatra Beach? Seriously, it’s nearly as amazing as flying up there, very arguably! I mean, picture landing softly on soft sand with the sea just meters away; honestly, how cool does that even sound? The pilot handled the landing so, so skillfully, like almost gently placing us right on the ground. What a legend.

Once my feet hit the ground, there was that feeling of accomplishment, just mixed with a bit of sadness, sort of sad it was all over already. What I mean by that is just seeing how quick those amazing 20 minutes could possibly last. You are left just wanting a few more minutes up there. And being that this landing bit happened at Cleopatra Beach, and being in Alanya as a tourist. Obviously, there would always be ways you can occupy yourself until dinner comes!

But you did manage to enjoy this view from, so they say, a “bird’s-eye point of view.” At the end of it all, getting all strapped out, grabbing those souvenirs that might or might not be offered on some deals, then again having transportation to get you back to where you’re staying. Those bits all feel just right!

Things to Consider Before You Fly

Alright, here are some things to really know if you’re considering tandem paragliding in Alanya:

• Weather is key: Paragliding truly does rely on good weather, obviously, so flights get cancelled if conditions aren’t safe, naturally. Check that forecast! Or have a back-up plan for days to move flights.
• Book in advance: Specifically in the tourist season, booking your trip early could actually get you better times and, potentially, save you a little money too. Also check for those weather guidelines, naturally.
• Wear comfy clothes: Choose comfy clothes and sturdy shoes, also meaning anything that won’t easily fall off your body while up there. No open-toed footwear!
• Listen to your pilot: The pilots are extremely trained, so give them trust and really listen closely to those instructions; safety comes first, obviously. It may seem obvious to hear, still you could just find one or two that just get distracted by views or just have zero awareness, so you know. Just saying, but yeah – that said.
• Consider motion sickness: If you’re typically prone to motion sickness, maybe take precautions before your flight. I’m telling you now, I actually never had those kinds of issues until then. Who knows?

If you were to just book a trip that I did at random. And honestly expected too much, you are going to have a less fun, arguably, depending on your luck. Do be a planner, and you too could experience it the best possible way. At the end of the day.

Is Tandem Paragliding in Alanya Worth It?

Completely, absolutely yes. That trip was truly more than just an adventure; it actually gave me this super unique perspective of Alanya’s beauty, alright? The combination of that thrill from the flight with views of Alanya Castle and Cleopatra Beach, for example, creates memories that, very truthfully, I’ll cherish always. I did do quite a lot of traveling, yet I have to just put it out there; that trip stands out, really, because it provided just such a special mix of history, nature, and adventure.
