Phi Phi Islands Trip Review: 2 Days, 1 Night of Fun
Planning a trip to Thailand? Right, Phi Phi Islands are just, like, calling your name, and for a good reason, too it’s almost otherworldly beauty! We spent 2 days and 1 night hopping around these pretty incredible islands, and I thought I’d share my experience, that is to say, what went down, what was cool, and if you should totally check it out yourself. I’ll go through it, honestly, all from chilling on crazy beaches to dodging the crowds, so you’ll be completely prepped if you do indeed find yourself planning that trip.
Booking the Trip: What to Expect
Alright, let’s get to the beginning of the whole crazy experience, shall we? We actually booked our Phi Phi Islands trip through a local tour company in Phuket. Actually, you might find lots of them kicking about. Looking at your options can feel overwhelming but, still, generally, the prices are nearly all competitive. Basically, packages tend to bundle together transport by ferry, a stay at a very basic resort (we’re just talking bed and maybe air-con), boat trips to different spots, and lunch. Yup, that’s it, frankly, don’t be expecting anything too extravagant in that respect! That is how they kind of make it budget friendly, or something! Something important is to very clearly look at what is exactly covered in the trip. I’m saying, confirm the hotel details, understand which destinations you will see (particularly regarding Maya Bay and, like, what kind of time will be spent there), and clarify what, precisely, is up for any add-ons, because there’s constantly opportunities to hand over even more of your cash, by the way.
I mean, regarding expectations, temper those a bit, because these trips, while a bit budget-friendly, tend to be very, very group focused. What I mean by that is, think early morning starts, loads of other sightseers and tight schedules. Yet, still, that can, kind of, all be okay if you just plan and prepare to go with the flow. One little heads up, by the way; check if your package fee already covers the Phi Phi National Park entrance fee because some places attempt to, honestly, charge you twice!
Day 1: Maya Bay and Island Hopping
The big day finally arrived. It often feels crazy when it happens that quickly! So, Day 1 kicks off really very early! Actually, it could be around 7 in the morning where you are waiting in the hotel lobby to be taken to the pier. Now, honestly, get prepared for something of a ride on the ferry. Depending on where your ferry actually sets off, that might be one to two hours, that is to say, each way, which is quite a long time sitting there.
Maya Bay comes first up, and yes, where *The Beach* was actually filmed! Honestly, that’s why pretty much everyone goes! The reality? Basically, It’s absolutely crazy! Yet, you see why it is so world famous as you approach in the vessel, there’s, generally, that crystal water along with those looming cliffs. As well as the film connection, that’s something fairly impressive that you won’t actually forget! However, sadly, you’re really very unlikely to actually get any time alone here, or something. Rather, honestly, it’s typically packed with other travellers doing just the same thing! Take all those postcard photos very quickly.
The island-hopping part, well, that follows, actually. In actual fact, the itinerary will likely tend to include spots like Monkey Beach (pretty busy too, just a word), Bamboo Island (a bit more calm, in some respects, and, therefore, nicer for just lazing), plus various cool spots for snorkeling or perhaps swimming. Usually, the snorkeling will be great at all these destinations, providing some seriously awesome things to look at. That does assume the current isn’t strong at that place and the visibility is relatively clear that day, by the way. Your tour guides will, too, usually, actually provide the gear if it is part of that trip. You are, similarly to going to a tourist spot, sharing those, too.
Accommodation on Phi Phi Don
Once we were actually dropped off at Phi Phi Don (which is, of course, the only inhabited isle from the chain), so, actually, we checked into the accommodation that we had in our overall package. Really, this isn’t often much to write home about! What you can definitely assume is some fairly basic digs and a bed to lie your head on, more or less. The advantage that comes from this kind of stay? Basically, it’s that Phi Phi Don is incredibly walkable. So, too it’s really easy to get out and, like, walk everywhere by foot. From restaurants along with stores, right through up to the viewing spots and even out towards some of those far away bays! Usually, I would definitely say that just having time on your feet wandering that area gives an absolutely much better overall sense of the real place compared with seeing bits between boat journeys, I suppose.
At sunset, definitely seek out a place at a viewing point to take in some amazing views, honestly. Yes, you may have company from all sorts of other sightseers, too it’s almost an absolutely gorgeous thing, especially from the heights, to just watch as the day winds down on the islands. Regarding eats? Alright, Phi Phi has completely all kinds of options from eating at roadside stalls through up to elegant dining. If you plan on a party night? Okay, that’s good too, because Phi Phi is very well-known for this activity; yet still, make sure that you keep a proper eye on your gear! Seriously, petty crime is sometimes seen to be a problem during such late revelry!
Day 2: More Beaches and Departure
With only a bit of a hangover (I’ll save you that story), day 2 dawned. You’ve got the opportunity to make use of those spare hours that you have, basically, depending on the ferry back. Sometimes, that can literally be one or two in the afternoon. We made a choice to actually have a swim near Loh Dalum Bay because the hostel wasn’t very far, still. Remember the time to allow, like, packing, check out time from accommodation and perhaps a bite. Another alternative? Often consider going to Long Beach, by the way; It can definitely be achieved using water taxi if you just don’t think you want to move your feet.
Eventually you return back on that ferry and make that trip. Right, use that time in your comfy seats in an air conditioned interior because actually it is likely to be the last period where you sit still for an entire few hours! Something you’ll find regarding traveling, that is, it goes by just like that!
The Verdict: Was It Worth It?
Right then, what did I reckon of the overall experience, well? Yeah, the 2 days / 1 night trip toward Phi Phi Islands could be a bit hectic, it is important to note. At certain parts it does very much feel group tourist-like. On those boats it feels actually pretty frantic. But despite the times it has got busy, very, and often a little tiring due to such busy timings, It could actually definitely tick off numerous things that many see Thailand actually being known for. Those bays and the water is literally postcard beautiful. Therefore I think it remains a really good choice when the timescale on your holiday itinerary is so small or your cash is fairly restricted.
Is there a great way of exploring Phi Phi and, thus, maybe taking the edges off numerous cons that exist on these trips? Maybe if I do it once more, definitely; yes, consider traveling individually! Maybe just find that cheap enough ferry out from Phuket and remain there a number of nights in a good private hotel. So you will often travel round beaches to stay longer in destinations in quietness that’s better than, you know, just all that noise and rush from a group. Ultimately it costs slightly extra, therefore it really depends where your priorities can be found I would say. Either way? Very definitely visit and get to see Koh Phi Phi! Thailand can definitely offer few other gems which are that easy from an important airport in Thailand, is that it.
Extra Tips for the Trip
- Pack Light: Okay, you’ll be lugging a bag a few times, as a matter of fact, and possibly onto boats with just no space. What you would actually need is really swimwear and some clothes.
- Sunscreen is essential: In short, the sun truly does cook people; yet still, wear an absolutely great sun block and keep doing so all over your body. Seriously, the difference could be drastic.
- Money is nice: Of course, it might seem odd pointing that out, honestly. Even where several meals have, of course, been included; take cash so you purchase snacks or drinks between meals; as well as for those national park dues. It is definitely possible at the beaches just to get something fairly nice between meals as and when.
- The seasickness consideration: If you’re not very fond of travel at ocean, as I was saying, consider bringing the proper medicines beforehand just to avoid just, you know, wasting half that journey suffering!
Going to Phi Phi actually provides just some incredible moments, is that correct? Yet still you can definitely maximize that experience with just preparation. I believe by actually thinking those points above I, literally, guarantee you travel slightly better that I performed!
