Puno Islands Tour: Uros, Amantani & Taquile (2-Day) – A Detailed Review
Lake Titicaca! That place is incredibly gigantic, and is really where a couple of days can change your whole idea of a trip, you know? This 2-day excursion hopping around from Uros to Amantani to Taquile starts out in Puno, and, at the end of the experience, it honestly is something you’ll be happy you didn’t miss, too. What’s so great, though? So many cool things happen; so, too the culture shocks, scenic experiences and real human experiences are beyond just surface level tourist stuff.
First Stop: Floating on the Uros Islands
Alright, so you hit the Uros Islands, and is that something else, isn’t it? These floating islands are super unusual ’cause they’re totally handmade out of totora reeds. It’s almost like the folks here live on a giant, wobbly sponge, and still are? That sounds strange, but too it’s real. Learning all about how they put the islands together—layer upon layer of reeds constantly being added—is very awesome, even before the people tell you their way of life, their customs and traditions.
Now, it’s usually not completely all sunshine and roses; you may think it’s a bit touristy, still, too? Sure. Yet if you’re ready, that’s where there are some amazing moments where you can actually listen, talk and learn instead of just snapping pictures like there’s no tomorrow, too. Buying a trinket, in some respects, it helps their economy as you hear all these really wild stories coming right from the people who’re living them; there’s honestly nothing else that can replace that, you know?
Amantani Island: Homestay and Cultural Immersion
Moving from Uros to Amantani gives you a change in speed, so to speak. This is basically a homestay kind of situation; and yet staying with a family is where the travel goes from simple sightseeing into being an actual deep-dive. Families there open up their places (often just one room with extra spaces off to the side) and cook you eats like quinoa soup and fresh potatoes, so too you end up really feeling their kindness.
The evening on Amantani might just be the best memory of the trip, arguably, isn’t it? When dusk settles in, dressing in the island’s traditional clothes is, in a way, incredibly bonding. Later on everybody starts walking up to Pachatata (Father Earth) temple to catch the sunset as a community. The scene is like golden hour turned way, way up, with Titicaca spread out below; in fact, I felt a little caught up in the world when everyone’s telling jokes, having fun and basically just hanging around.
Taquile Island: Textiles and Traditions
Taquile is very, very different again, when the tour keeps going to Taquile. The steep walks are actually challenging but they’re extremely doable if you are moderately active. But the pay-off’s there for these views. They basically glow.
Yet, what truly makes Taquile really special is just a tiny bit of cultural context? Oh yes. You see it displayed right out in their outfits! It’s really just interesting since you hear it told how, say, the unmarried people are wearing particular hats, and people that have coupled up also are wearing totally other ones. This custom of weaving, so beautiful it gets marked on the UNESCO lists, too, you actually hear it being chatted up as being generally a guy thing while spinning/knitting are generally woman things? What can’t be stated enough when they say something like that is “The whole society displays art”. Every. Where.
Things To Remember (So It Actually Goes Okay)
Now that’s it if we chatted, a little, that tour to Titicaca rocks, you know? However, listen up—to have things all just perfect there are a couple things that really might just assist the entire happening?
- Altitude adjustment – that Puno basically will lay out the folks feeling it, and you feel it even if fit. Get acclimatized prior going; even coca tea also assists, and the medications help.
- Cash funds – Basically they have none on very islands. No ATMs too. Take smaller denomination dough for small purchases, like we said!
- Proper dressing is critical – Cold and warm just like that are what occurs in Titicaca in days. Bring layers/sunscreen/headwear.
- Engage folks always – Actually? When somebody asks what life is about there at their location…do give back/swap. Being basically respectful is never something folks are remiss in wanting to appreciate.
With just the very slight preparedness (actually very!) you’re having trips basically without fault. Plus that two-day, Lake-Titicaca tour could make experiences of a whole lifestyle!
So Really? To Choose this Tour Or To Simply Ghost It Off…
Is this Lake Titicaca thing generally worthy of your travels and cash resources then? Simply for that alone the reply generally is affirmative, actually very. People view just basically sights. Yet on going on Puno’s islands that takes living and the traditions and those links.
Is it a five star-nothing bad excursion for totally any comer ever? Clearly the trips that could alter a life are not those ones. Yet if you look really to dive into things past only simply seeing and doing, just prepare on the real with actually actually talking with island residents; there’s really the place you are having moments that alter you, basically! Make something really nice on the memories-side for real and get moving already, with Titicaca going just at some stage with yourself!
