Dublin to Belfast: A Review of My Titanic & Giant’s Causeway Day Trip By Car
So, you are pondering that quick escape from Dublin up to Belfast to witness, you know, that whole Titanic story and the Giant’s Causeway? Very well, very well indeed! It is something that sounds quite exciting on paper: a grand day outing, but, too it’s almost worthwhile to consider if the reality matches those glossy brochures. Basically, I decided to put it to the test myself and what happened was, is that the review I kinda wished I had beforehand.
Setting off from Dublin: Is the Drive Worth It?
First things first, very early in the morning I set my trusty GPS to Belfast. The M1 highway, very surprisingly, actually provided a very smooth, uneventful drive. In fact, I felt the journey in my bones and was reminded of adventures past, you see? Apparently, under normal circumstances, the drive to Belfast is typically approximately two hours. You know, traffic near Dublin, yet, is sometimes a beast! Because of that I highly suggest you add a bit of wiggle room. Remember that a very early departure can sometimes save you from a bit of heartache.
Let me tell you, the views during the ride are not quite what one might expect, as they were not spectacular. What I observed, rather, was miles and miles of rolling green fields and pastures. That said, if it is springtime then, naturally, you are driving through a very vivid green dreamscape, really! This is, arguably, especially wonderful after a spell of rainy weather which blesses that isle rather frequently, you know?
Titanic Belfast: A Museum Experience
So, what should you think if that, you know, huge, kinda shimmering building appears? In a way, you’ve made it to the Titanic Belfast. This striking construction truly celebrates everything related to the infamous ship made right in that city. I want to say that as you wander its different galleries you find very well presented exhibits. Very soon after you are following that Titanic from blueprint until she reaches her tragic conclusion.
You know, are those tickets a bit pricey? They might be. It would be a very good idea to look around for a way to save a buck or two before you arrive. In any case, the experience does what it needs to do: with a dose of storytelling combined with immersive technology that gives you insight into the construction, lives and times related to the Titanic. Personally, I found that look back on maritime history moving. I also think those replica cabins gave it a very special touch!
Giant’s Causeway: Nature’s Puzzle
So, after Titanic Belfast, I continued heading on towards the North Antrim Coast. Let me tell you, it really shows off when it wants to. Basically, every curve reveals very dramatic ocean views. Then it goes without saying, the destination you have to visit is the Giant’s Causeway. This remarkable stretch is so wonderfully weird it looks unreal and is composed of some interlocking basalt columns, often. A little history for you, basically a tale states that giants fashioned that peculiar landscape which very well gives it even more character, really!
I recommend that, maybe, you spend a fair while just clambering over such stones. I also advise, if possible, just breath the salty breeze, too! Actually, it does gets very busy with tourists, actually. So you might want to consider that to come at odd hours! Those visitor center provides context of how the Causeway has come to be plus some guided visits – yet sometimes it feels rewarding to explore solo!
Food for Thought: Dining During Your Day Trip
You know, if you get an appetite (and who wouldn’t, by the way, after seeing things?), what happened was, is that both Belfast and some spots nearer Giant’s Causeway got amazing dining places. Of course Belfast has lots of very interesting offerings, so you know you could probably swing anything from some trendy cafes and you know bistro-like places. However if you want, what is called, “authentic”, maybe go a bit out, to Bushmills, or one of them coastal settlements for your some very nice classic, and freshly cooked, Irish dishes.
As a matter of fact if you go for some fish and chips near the sea you are sure, obviously, you get good eats. Make sure your expectations are realistic with your limited time – what can happen is that something fancy may take just a bit to long. In fact sometimes a quick pub lunch really can add more memories if you are in that area, so give it a try!
Driving Back to Dublin: Late Reflections
So that’s it? In that case the end has arrived! I am, of course, talking about the afternoon. And you may need to, anyway, head all the way back towards Dublin. So make sure you count correctly! Basically, keep a check on that time thing during your exploring of the Titanic museum. Similarly to what was recommended before, keep your eyes on traffic reports.
Actually as a piece of wisdom, maybe play some calming music? It could be needed in traffic. What can also prove good in my opinion, and, maybe arguably, yours, it is something where during your trip you get thinking how some careful timing and early preparations can really up your whole experience! Maybe stop for one coffee somewhere that looks, and kinda smells, lovely.
