Pilanesberg Prestige Safari: A Deep Dive Review

Pilanesberg National Park in South Africa? It’s almost like a super interesting spot, particularly if you’re into getting up close with wildlife without, you know, flying halfway across the planet. My own little trip there with Pilanesberg Prestige Safari, well, that definitely opened my eyes. The experience sort of made me think about wildlife encounters quite differently, that’s for sure.

Why Pilanesberg?

Pilanesberg geology

You might wonder, “Pilanesberg, seriously?” Like, there are heaps of places to check out animals. But you see, Pilanesberg is, in some respects, fairly special. First off, the park sort of sits in a crater. I mean, can you even believe that? It’s actually the remains of this really, really ancient volcano. I think that kind of makes for some pretty unique landscapes, and it gives the place a vibe all its own, really. Plus, getting there? Very doable, particularly from Johannesburg, that’s right. So, yeah, no crazy travel plans are necessary, usually.

That said, it is more than simply a place that’s easy to get to, usually. Pilanesberg actually holds an interesting spot historically. Back in the day, during times of farming and all, the area really got kind of depleted. The guys then decided to step in, fix things up, and bring in loads of animals, you see. Seriously, it’s like they relocated a whole bunch of different species to get the park hopping with activity again. And honestly? You can totally tell that that work has really paid off, finally. So it makes the trip quite worth it, arguably.

Choosing Prestige Safari

Right, so about Prestige Safari? Very, very key point, very key choice when planning this trip. You know, there are safari companies by the dozen, and it is tough, I hear, sorting the excellent from, let’s say, the so-so ones, right? But something that seriously grabbed my attention with Prestige was their dedication to this really high level of comfort mixed with actually doing things responsibly, basically. That said, it wasn’t just talk; I read heaps of reviews, and the consistency of the praise? Extremely hard to ignore, basically.

Another reason, by the way, I leaned toward them? They cap the number of people in their vehicles. In some respects, this might seem quite insignificant, actually. But trust me, jamming into a jeep with like, a million other tourists? No fun. At the end of the day, it is nice actually having room to breathe and move, and honestly, it gives you way better views of the animals. So it improves your pictures for socials, just a little.

What to Expect on the Safari

So, what can you usually anticipate once you’re really out there? I went for the full-day safari. You get picked up super early, and yeah, in that case, it means fighting off the urge to just roll over and keep sleeping, finally. But hey, seeing that sunrise over the bush? Worth it. I guess it is really a whole experience in itself, is that right?

Very quick note, there’s something about the quiet that basically grabs you. Early in the morning, I want to say, everything feels almost frozen in time, is that right? But then, little by little, as the sun peeks out, you begin hearing things, yeah? Birds start chattering, and that is when it sort of feels as if the bush wakes up, finally. During our safari, well, very quick story, we actually spotted lions early on. Lions! Like, they were just there, super chill, yawning away, and acting as if they hadn’t noticed us one bit. Is that unbelievable? Seriously, that was before breakfast; in fact, how wild is that?

The Game Drives

Pilanesberg game drive

Oh, the game drives, usually. With Prestige Safari, these aren’t just haphazard cruises hoping you randomly see a rhino, arguably. You know, the guides, I think, are seriously knowledgeable, right? They actually knew heaps about the park’s wildlife and could point out everything, such as different animal tracks. The details concerning bird calls? Actually mind-blowing, you see. This really added tons to the adventure, yeah?

Here’s something interesting, during the drives, it seemed the guides were chatting to one another over the radio, you know. At the end of the day, what they’re actually doing is sharing exactly where they’ve spotted stuff, like a really uncommon bird sighting. Usually, this meant our driver would jet off to, well, those hot spots. As a matter of fact, I think that’s the reason we had heaps of animal sightings on the day, to be honest. By the way, just for information, those sightings even involved, that’s right, a seriously elusive leopard. Basically, that’s the advantage of basically rolling with guides that are, you know, on top of everything.

Food and Comfort

Safari breakfast

Let’s address the meals and, in some respects, the breaks. Midday, generally speaking, you normally stop at one of the spots that has picnic spots. I recall Prestige actually set up lunch for everyone, you know. Picture this, there’s actually crisp linen, really decent sandwiches, as well as the sorts of drinks you feel you fancy, that, yeah? It is honestly more fancy than your typical, average ‘thrown-together’ kind of safari snack.

Something quite surprising, actually, about the jeeps they drive. They’re really looked after. I can’t stand safaris when you seem like you’re bouncing all over the place because of these horrible old, beaten-up vehicles. Anyway, with Prestige, you generally feel quite comfy. Actually, I seem to think this creates all of the difference whenever you’re driving over miles of pretty bumpy roads, honestly. Therefore, big tick for comfort, definitely.

Wildlife Sightings

Fine, what exactly did we see, in fact? Obviously, seeing wildlife is usually why you bother showing up, very? You should expect to catch pretty clear glimpses of the Big Five, and they do actually live in Pilanesberg, really. That said, here is the honest truth, animal sightings aren’t, I feel, completely guaranteed. This is nature, after all, is that correct? Basically, on my trip, anyway, yeah, we nailed the elephants, rhinos, lions and buffalo, by the way. Therefore, four out of five? Quite good, actually.

Let’s say, it’s not strictly all regarding the Big Five. To be honest, keep an eye out for zebras, giraffes, as well as tons of antelope types. You’ll notice these adorable little creatures termed the meerkats scampering about. These definitely bring a grin to basically anybody’s face, to be honest. And by the way, that diverse bird life that everyone talks about? The tales really are very true, very. Seriously, bring along some binoculars.

Photography Tips for Pilanesberg

Safari photography

Alright, bits of advice in relation to photos for people, very. One: go ahead and bring a nice camera fitted with a telephoto lens, arguably. I’d argue you’ll be needing to zoom a bunch, therefore, yeah, that cellphone camera might not exactly cut it, as a matter of fact. Two: take images early and late in the daytime. Just before dusk and right before dawn offers that absolutely amazing lighting, just like golden-hour pictures and stuff.

One minor bit to recall is being really ready and always prepared. Truly, animals? They never truly call you saying, “Okay, yeah, I will stay right here. Make certain that you’re perfectly ready”. Hence, I reckon basically keeping that camera good to go definitely helps massively to getting some superb snaps.

Things to Consider Before Booking

Stuff worth giving thought to before securing things? Obviously, season makes that significant amount of difference. Colder, dry seasons can in fact be nicer in relation to viewing creatures as the scrubland vegetation basically isn’t nearly as dense, admittedly. That aside, make absolutely certain that you take all of those crucial products, that’s right, the mosquito spray and sunscreen. Seriously, trust this. You’ll greatly appreciate getting prepared, clearly.

Just be certain, it’s also nice to see what actually is included as part of your chosen safari, literally. With trips such as those from Prestige, at the end of the day, it’s usually including almost everything. In reality, this is covering pick-ups up to lunch, literally. Though other less expensive businesses can on the other hand have actually hidden extras which do actually inflate that final bill a lot.
