Honest Review: Snorkeling Tour with Turtles & Cenote
If you’re planning a trip, that is, like your typical beach vacation, to Mexico’s Riviera Maya, swimming with turtles in their natural habitat is one of those experiences that always gets a ton of buzz, that many travelers rave about; and for a good reason. I mean, who wouldn’t want to glide alongside these calm and peaceful animals? When you then add to that, the opportunity to explore an underwater cave – a cenote – the experience, to be fair, reaches a totally different degree of ‘wow’. I got back from a “Half-Day Semiprivate Snorkeling Tour with Turtles & Cenote,” and honestly, I just want to give you the lowdown, in case you were, kind of, considering booking it. Hopefully, you’ll get a clearer picture of what to expect.
Booking and Pre-Tour Expectations
So, first things first, actually. The booking process? That was straightforward enough, really. Most operators these days, kind of, have easy-to-use websites where you can see what’s available. But still, here’s where I started making some of the big choices, you know, stuff, like weighing the price against what I wanted. A thing to keep in your mind? That “semiprivate” tours are almost a little more money than those huge group excursions; still, in return you do get a more intimate and, basically, customized feel, I guess. The description of this one looked great online, honestly; they talked about small groups, specialized attention, and two completely, totally, separate locations. My hopes were definitely quite high.
I mean, naturally I made my decision based upon on lots and lots of different elements; but generally, the deciding elements had been a mixture between pricing packages, schedule selections and potential available dates for excursions that are, too, easily combined together in the day or week that suited me best. Don’t be afraid of purchasing tours very beforehand though. I did that. But basically that really just allows a better schedule management! The communications before we started our adventure were on spot, though. You should probably already feel the excitement and tour support the day ahead of your experience!
First Stop: Swimming with Sea Turtles
I mean, we set out bright and early, almost, and the meetup location, in that case, was pretty simple to locate, even. From there, it was only a short drive, literally, to the coastline where we would interact with our first destination – to float in shallow waters and have a swim session with, that, you know, majestic sea turtles. Now, you should, usually, temper your expectations, to be fair: these are wild animals in a marine environment, very, and so, sightings are really always promised but they are most certainly usually likely!
Once we finally get on location, it looks as if many other groups already are floating upon there, and preparing to swim on the reef – meaning it becomes rather hard, honestly, to fully appreciate any peaceful atmosphere here. The upside? That the crew, very, made its finest to navigate and search quiet spots for everyone. I suppose they want to bring value and make their clients enjoy their own tour after all; but, you know, that meant that swimming sometimes involved struggling from/towards, like, the rest of that other bunch.
It felt as if we did managed to observe multiple individual animals along all that time and space from us while on-water but you know, that made taking fantastic photography a bit hard – even for expert photographers on spot, almost – so honestly, you just need being ready to embrace the full moment, very; enjoy it as it shows up before you, and let the photo props a tiny, very little aside (I know, a few humans can resist from doing that…I´m sorry) and that´s everything!
Cenote Exploration
After spending a really pretty honest period appreciating some gorgeous wildlife swimming peacefully through their homes, actually we stepped away a little bit so, literally we could explore an intriguing underground river system on a natural sinkhole, with stalactites and -mites everywhere. The waters here felt really crisp and cooler, though, when compared against ocean warmth so; in other phrases, get prepared before your immersion or maybe you just want your wet fit to protect from, you know, freezing temperatures while sightseen’ – your choice, really!
The vibe got a very slight boost from all the previous experiences, truly. You do seem almost transported on your planet here, once jumping inside such stunning natural cave formation where that sunshine barely kisses every little portion of it and there you are, kind of floating among rock historic displays and all these organic scenarios – it feels that special that any description here falls too brief, literally!. Oh, as a fun aspect there are teeny fishes exploring cave zones besides those rock sets. I couldn´t identify type so, generally, I should presume nothing and better believe what they say in-site before starting out tour experience but in other ways…They just added to underwater beauty!, in a way.
The only real possible minus regarding swimming? That areas can seem very narrow or quite crowded every once and when because there only exists one entry location! Yet swimming in a group offers some safety aspects during your exploration session down there!
Gear and Guidance Provided
Almost, one of those elements that will make or ruin, truly, any tour really will include all types or equipments handled prior any actual trip! Well… In a common sense, every type needed and that you would feel much needed prior departure got considered – as a snorkeling device/mask, a lifetime vest jacket and that kind of articles. Crew even hands everyone some waterproof sets before going into waters so really, it did looked quite secured around then
A good side from, I would tell, some group tours, yet would result onto having guides along swimmers all day, as well underwater – really did helped for watching animal interactions, caring onto every visitor along their experience so everyone managed to enjoy from a good overseeing on route – or perhaps also ensuring any required basic support during both swimming sets as the location demanded
Yet this consideration deserves be reminded there – just that you consider, truly: be prepared onto swimming or floating with, actually, these type of gear during rather long periods and into, very, totally separated locations for very extended moment of periods!
The Semiprivate Experience: Worth It?
Ok, then. The selling argument on why one might get booking the whole session there: all “semi private consideration”. Does getting inside semi little clusters really impacts during session? Well almost!
For all that I spotted previously and based on previous references and group sets… We could be easily up into fifteen fellows sharing all those places with them onto identical shift! That made feeling it bit saturated there along waters in some aspects there – mostly onto oceans during those periods because all swimmers shared identical interests back along!
I tell, generally speaking, on these aspects, really did played minor significance during the whole moment and for tour level so it wouldn’t deserve being highlighted greatly: a tour would continue delivering what said, while providing unique touring guidance with it and no matter type or total members joining. Still you´re very, yet feeling of exploring that with, just a smaller group, on that way
Value for Money?
Considering all previously described about previous segments during all day… Do you consider everything to worth, right? Perhaps, and in conclusion, maybe!
For many reasons, if getting into contact with animals/ocean habitats in wildlife sites result quite meaningful activity and task for you… Or generally being keen on floating between cave rivers would boost an exciting addition for everyone – Then all package becomes an undeniable hit by which you wont regrets later
At a more objective type, any tour prices around it should stay mostly competitive considering similar tour experiences offered onto same areas there yet you might feeling, maybe, that “private tours” always comes off more pricier considering better/premium benefits.
