After that, well, that was about it, really. Back to the hotel I went! You can see a lot of these tours can squeeze in multiple visits, yet, I was starting to flag a bit at that point. You know, it can all get a bit tiring.

The Good Stuff About the Tour

What did I actually enjoy, that, then? Well, firstly, having someone else figure out the transport and route is great, basically. Driving in Pune? Very scary, I found. Traffic’s crazy! And the roads can be tricky. So, being driven around was a win for me, at the end of the day. Second, the guide really knew their stuff. They gave you historical context to the sites, told stories, pointed out details, and all that kind of thing. Honestly, you would probably miss 90% of that if you rocked up by yourself without knowing anything. Not quite a history professor but really useful. Very informative.

Third thing, you get to see a bunch of different places, too it’s almost, even if it’s just a quick look at each, obviously. I think, number one, the schedule can be a bit rushed, I suppose. You don’t get ages at each spot. It’s more of a “whistle-stop tour”, maybe. It works if you just want a quick overview, obviously, but if you love history, let’s say, and want to spend three hours at Shaniwar Wada, that might not be enough for you.

Also, think about what interests you personally. I mean, like I mentioned, that tour visited a temple, yet, if you are not bothered about religious spots, that might feel like a waste of time. Some tours let you customize stuff, I suppose. And another thing? Don’t forget that lunch. I am so always starving around midday, too it’s almost, so make sure you take some snacks or, maybe, factor in time to grab something before you start, so. OK, those points should definitely give you something to consider.

OK, big question, obviously, should you actually book this thing? Well, if you are new to Pune and you have limited time, the answer might be yes, anyway. You get to see a lot in a pretty short time, someone else sorts out transport, plus you have a local telling you interesting facts, you know? That makes it worth considering, definitely. I also think it’s useful if you are not super confident about getting around on your own. Public transport can be tricky, the traffic is what it is, and auto rickshaws (tuk-tuks) aren’t for everybody, I am aware.

However, if you are more of, like, an independent traveler, I think, who likes to wander around at your own speed, or maybe you have heaps of time in Pune, you might be better off doing it yourself. Armed with a decent guidebook (other books are available!) and Google Maps, really. Also, like, if you have visited similar places, that, or historical sites a bunch of times before, it could be repetitive, alright?
