Florence Private Walking Tour Review: Local Insights & Hidden Gems

Florence City

So, you are planning a trip to Florence, are you? That is a stunning city, and you, too, want to experience it in a unique way. You might be tired of those big group tours where you’re just another face in the crowd. In that case, have you thought about booking a private walking tour with a local? Actually, I did just that on my last visit, and let me tell you, that, in a way, it completely changed how I saw the city.

Why Go With a Local?

local guide

You are probably asking yourself: why go with someone who lives there? Well, it’s about getting an authentic peek into what makes Florence special. That is way more than just seeing the famous places. These local guides? Very often, they’ve spent their lives in Florence. That is to say, they are just loaded with historical info, cool stories, and, just maybe, even a secret or two that you probably will not find in any guidebook. As a matter of fact, it makes the experience just a little bit more personal, you know?

The thing I, like your regular tourist, really, enjoyed the most? It was getting those tips on where the real Florentines hang out. Like, not just the spots filled with tourists. I’m talking about that hole-in-the-wall Trattoria where they, seemingly, have the tastiest bistecca alla fiorentina, or, you know, the less known, yet stunning gardens where you can, arguably, chill without loads of people snapping photos. That’s what I mean!

Finding the “Best of Florence” Tour

Okay, so how do you find this “best” tour, anyway? The internet, in some respects, is basically overflowing with options, right? I mean, just a little search will give you tons of choices. Still, in a way, I didn’t want to just go with any tour; I very much wanted something a bit different, and very much top notch.

You might want to see reviews and stuff. Also, think about what YOU like! More or less, do you prefer art, history, or even maybe food? In that case, try and find a tour that, seemingly, fits those interests, okay? After that, I took a good look at what other people had to say. The “Best of Florence Private Walking Tour” came up very highly, again and again, just because it talked about getting really knowledgeable locals. In the end, I booked a morning tour. As a matter of fact, I wanted to miss those afternoon crowds and have the day, actually, all to myself.

My Personal Experience: A Walk to Remember

walking in Florence

Meeting my guide, whose name was Alessandro, very early, still half-asleep, actually turned out to be one of the best experiences I ever had in Italy. You know, those popular group tours? Those move fast! In contrast, we took it a bit slower. Actually, we just chatted like pals. The whole tour was just, seemingly, shaped around my questions, you know, with little extra stuff thrown in by Alessandro. In the first place, it felt super special and easy.

You will get the typical tourist destinations, right? First up, the Duomo – and very impressive it looks too. However, it gets super cool. And Alessandro, very patiently, told me stories about, basically, how it came to be, like back in the day, and, also, just stories that most people would not even be aware of. After the Duomo, you can hang out on Ponte Vecchio. Also, very fun is walking along the Arno River, as matter of fact, and looking at all those ancient stores right on that historic bridge.

It just doesn’t stop with well known locations either! I can only recall seeing secret gardens. Moreover, it looks a tiny bit out of the way. And as Alessandro states, a little corner of heaven! That place had us, supposedly, sitting just by a fountain with basically zero people, and soaking it all in. He, seemingly, knew a lot about those powerful families, which, to be honest, actually built Florence, and, too it’s almost, basically shared that history without us even realising!

The Unexpected Delights

Florentine architecture

That makes sense – the best stuff that came along during this walking tour, or, too it’s almost, anything you want to call it, came from spontaneous moments. Something like that comes from Alessandro taking a slightly different path down a street so that I, personally, could, for instance, look at the way those buildings had been built hundreds of years ago. Or how about us stumbling upon, just like that, a small workshop where there’s, like, one guy creating leather goods, using old time methods, which very nearly takes a while to do but, literally, it ends up superb?

You just get to see places where Florentines are, simply, hanging out. Or even more surprising stuff that, otherwise, might have been very likely missed. Like those little markers and insignias, just a tiny bit worn but super historically important – those little signs end up basically speaking directly about the identity of Florence. The local guide knows the right story and will guide you through the heart of this magnificent region.

What Sets This Tour Apart?

Florence Art

Why that tour out of all of the available ones? Actually, loads of things made it just a little bit memorable. You’re basically getting an insight of places from people who love this place; it’s simply special, and can actually be seen in any part of what you will hear. All you need is, basically, some great history of the town to start up that tour.

A regular tourist could easily wander past a building without, maybe, understanding any of it at all. Still, for someone in Florence, that’s a gem. And, on top of just speaking generally on architecture, a great guide simply tells you the histories, actually going super in depth – who came up with the cash, and, likewise, did he get screwed. These little nuggets have actually got soul within them, and it can very clearly be seen within Florence

Going local can easily let people feel that they have learned far more of a city

Is This Tour Worth Your Money?

OK, money talks, does it? Is shelling out, for example, a few more euros on a private trip instead of something more mainstream actually something worth investing in? In short – oh absolutely! When I actually think about that value brought through in-depth information, one on one experience and the sheer comfort given from having someone to, supposedly, deal with everything, without actually needing any real planning, it almost becomes invaluable.

The guide provides tips from their end and also can provide advice, and sometimes that information, seemingly, would not even come up anyplace. Now you might be able to, actually, see information within search pages, the web has no soul within. Being there, and almost asking from somebody’s heart – or something – is worth, basically, whatever someone will want to pay for.

Tips for Making the Most of Your Tour

tips for travel

When you book a local tour it can very much come off, actually, great with just a tiny amount of things, almost as easy as 123! As a matter of fact, start ahead; think over, for example, what, in some respects, you can look out for on a walk. Is the history or art very cool to look into and something you wish you saw.

Then, almost just as easy as asking and setting expectations, also it can, more or less, let them decide a route; a person can still actually trust a locals insight, who really will provide extra information. Also very simply dress nicely; the temperature can wildly wildly waver here

But do not, in some respects, feel as if you have to walk all of the place within a small span, okay? This is for yourself! So just relax and soak everything, including stories which might seemingly assist an entire visit!
