Lombok Gili Nanggu, Sudak & Kedis Snorkeling Trip: My Personal Take

Thinking about a getaway to Lombok, Indonesia? More or less, I recently went on a Gili Nanggu, Sudak, and Kedis snorkeling trip, and you know, I figured I’d share my thoughts about it. That area of Lombok provides really calm, crystal-clear seas, which is super appealing for snorkeling enthusiasts searching for underwater experiences. As a matter of fact, you’re looking for someplace away from, let’s just say, the tourist crowds? South West Lombok and its Gilis might be exactly what you’re searching for, definitely. Seriously, it has some awesome opportunities for snorkeling, too, doesn’t it?

What the Private Snorkeling Trip Included

Alright, getting into the specifics. I booked a private snorkeling trip that, typically, promised a full day of island hopping and underwater views, right? It’s that thing where the offer seems pretty simple, really, so I really wanted to see if everything matched what I expected. I guess, the package usually contains a private boat (just for your group, of course), snorkeling gear, lunch, and hotel transfers, something like that. They took care of all the logistics so we, too, didn’t need to stress over getting to the harbor or finding good places to eat. We paid a little extra too to get underwater photo ops, which was pretty amazing actually.

Gili Nanggu: The Quiet Paradise

Our first stop was Gili Nanggu. That’s a small island recognized for its calm atmosphere. And it’s almost like walking into a postcard. Now, you know the beaches? Very white sand, with water that is really clear. Basically, as soon as I got in, I was greeted by colorful fish all around me! Which I did not expect!. Because Gili Nanggu doesn’t allow that much development, it seems it keeps its unspoiled environment. It’s kind of kept this peaceful charm, something really rare, really. We just chilled on the beach, swam a little, and of course, snorkeled a bunch.

Gili Sudak: Lunch with a View

Gili Sudak was our next stop. This island, it’s famous because of its simple restaurant, serving really good seafood right on the beach, by the way. I mean the food experience? It was something special!. After all that snorkeling, having some delicious grilled fish, while you know, looking at the ocean? Very great. Snorkeling at Sudak has amazing coral reefs. When we went to snorkel we located a spot that had vibrant ecosystems under the surface. Gili Sudak gave that extra culinary delight, unlike Gili Nanggu.

Gili Kedis: The Tiny Gem

Our final destination? Gili Kedis. Just a really tiny island, that it took us only 5 minutes or so to walk around, you know. What makes Gili Kedis so, like, fascinating, basically, would be its intimate atmosphere. Feels like having your own deserted island, more or less. The snorkeling here had crystal-clear seas, that made seeing fish and coral easy. To be honest I didn’t know a location could be so, pretty amazing like that!. Just chilling in Gili Kedis was a great conclusion in our island tour. So, imagine getting to end on a, like, totally exclusive note.

Snorkeling Conditions and Marine Life

I think I can tell you more about snorkeling conditions because it was what made or break a journey like this. Let me say that in Gili Nanggu, Gili Sudak, or Gili Kedis, waters happen to be mostly quiet, actually. This allowed optimal visibility. On some days however, the current might be too powerful for some inexperienced swimmers. Now, the tour guides seemed informed to be prepared with spots ideal regarding current. We spotted things like clownfish, colorful coral formations, starfish and other cool underwater creatures too. Remember that based on the time and year some spots get greater biodiversity than usual.

What Could Have Been Better

Well, every adventure has things to learn from. Something that I didn’t enjoy, could be the amount of plastic that washed ashore on Gili Nanggu, actually. It’s that reminder on how trash impacts what is beautiful, just like an unspoiled paradise. We had to do a lot of trying in finding clear spots free from debris from civilization during our snorkeling. Even when our private boat allowed to feel pampered, several boats at Gili Kedis made it a little busy. It showed the necessity on managing tourism sustainably, basically. You may have nature, and people, however, if people aren’t doing the proper thing what good is it?

Recommendations for the Trip

Are you considering going for yourself, in some respects? Here are some tips I wish I’d recognized prior. Taking reef-safe sunscreen is essential to guard those underwater environments together with your skin, more or less. In fact, try bringing a water proof camera because that underwater splendor merits being captured. Also bring an extra change to clothes because swimming around Gilis really, requires that. In the event you, kind of, easily get seasick, bringing medicine beforehand might be a good idea, to be honest.

Is This Private Snorkeling Trip Worth It?
