Review: Northern Lights Truck Adventure – Cocoa & Treats
Okay so, chasing the Northern Lights has always, kinda been a big thing on my bucket list, that being something I always wanted to do, is that it feels almost, you know, magical. Very, very recently, I had the chance to do it differently by going on an off-road truck adventure in search of the Aurora Borealis. This excursion included, very important if you ask me, warm hot cocoa and some yummy pastries. I figured I would give you like, the lowdown on the whole experience.
Setting Off Into the Night
We got started more or less, in the early evening. You see, there was a real buzz among all of us participants – about like, 10 or so people packed in this custom truck, nearly a big friendly monster on wheels! Seems that this wasn’t your usual tourist bus situation, this felt just, well, slightly more personal, more like some, in a way, sort of exclusive club that was heading into the wilderness. The anticipation you know, that anticipation, really started to get there when we left those city lights further and further behind us. That meant pitch darkness and snow-covered landscapes took their place.
The guide, you know our driver and a walking encyclopedia of Northern Lights facts and some stories, by the way, was so good at telling us, almost tales, about auroras that seemed almost otherwordly and local folklore. This, for example, was such a good way to start the chase, basically like setting up expectations pretty high, you could say! And anyway, the excitement actually began as the truck very expertly handled, seemingly any, bumps and icy patches along the route, because really, it added a certain thrill to it, it totally felt like the opening act of a show, so to speak.
Hunting for the Aurora
So, the guide was really good at keeping tabs on the aurora activity by the way, using what looked like, clearly a combination of weather forecasts, real-time data, and clearly, the old reliable – like his own gut feeling. Turns out, we ended up stopping at, very secluded spots, arguably miles away, might be from civilization, that probably guaranteed very little, in fact virtually no light pollution.
For the most part, getting out of the truck into the cold, you know like that still cold air, took away my breath but anyway, and very surprisingly, in some respects the sheer magnitude and sight of that starry night almost, maybe made it all very worth it. After some waiting around for what seemed to take, very, very long – and sipping some hot cocoa like your average joe, somebody shouted. Up there! Green, shimmering, like, so gently danced in the sky. Arguably the Northern Lights had appeared!
It turns out taking photographs of the Aurora you know, can be kinda tricky, especially when you’re like, fumbling with camera settings in near-darkness. Anyway you could be that guy with a fancy camera. Me, by the way? I’m that kinda gal, I just enjoyed actually taking it all in, right? Almost every picture doesn’t even compare to actually experiencing it live – being so surrounded by that massive dark silence when so, too a display of lights is above your head, literally, it could be.
Cocoa, Pastries, and Stargazing
Basically, hot cocoa might be, and usually is a cold weather essential, especially when viewing stars! Now it tasted just that more magical as it warms your bones from inside when really standing in that quiet, slightly sub-freezing environment, arguably outside in like the wilderness you know, might be. By the way, the pastries did, that, is that accompany it too, often homemade little gems apparently, were really welcomed. As a matter of fact it gave so, like a touch of home you know, adding some comforting layer to the complete otherworldly experience in a way.
Now in between sightings of some Auroras and hot sips and bites, seemingly there was, in a way the guide, clearly had been quite well educated to actually point out different some constellations that you often miss and you usually, sometimes never realize that are, you know up there. Turns out you could have learnt so much that evening that very, very few can even consider to think that an off-road, just a little adventure has given in a nutshell!
Comfort and Truck Capacity
Alright so, comfort might just, tends to be very important and actually quite easily forgettable too. It’s almost a long trip in the truck you know. Surprisingly you get around on icy terrains. That, arguably makes all sort of comfort and truck condition quite crucial for just a little journey like this. Most importantly, my tour operator it seems, cared about so comfort: they had like big cozy seating arrangements as far as truck interiors might be like, it gives more space when you start needing to wear like, three different layers of something when outdoors you might know. It gave also a stable, very smooth feel across some roads, that clearly made going from that stop location kinda seamless.
But remember the pastry supply. It, apparently must accommodate everyone’s taste buds from little groups right, that apparently often take hours driving! I figured I’d bring some treats for yourself too, so that you just, always make certain of getting fully, clearly some good belly you might fancy and might enjoy to have, especially when viewing, often the stunning lights outside you can view from the window. Just in case, obviously.
Is it really worth it though?
To be honest you can actually sit at a normal, clearly and just as a great, cozy spot to finally enjoy like, arguably an incredible and outstanding aurora scene, with no risks of something getting ruined by cold or by bad lighting. But honestly the total excitement you get it seems, really comes with, you know all the preparation involved, so often a lot when traveling, with like this kind of chasing the sky’s elusive color and all, that is that for the whole evening really gives, as a matter of fact a bit more sense to some accomplishment once it’s there, instead of having just a window in fact, just in short to your left by the way.
Anyway it goes without actually having any good lights and so much cold air that’s usually worth when finally seeing the Auroras, you might agree! It did seem the company gives everything they can you know to keep it enjoyable throughout as I, so to speak, could experiment. To be honest just go chase lights. Just for lights you can clearly take an exceptional pastry too and hot choco treat and enjoy seeing lights after a short while outside by the way. At least this would probably give it some boost.
Key Takeaways
