Review: Hoi An to My Son Sanctuary and Tien Waterfall By Easy Rider
Planning a trip from Hoi An, Vietnam, and thinking about visiting both My Son Sanctuary and Tien Waterfall? Perhaps doing it all by Easy Rider sounds like the ultimate adventure? Well, I recently experienced exactly that, and, truthfully, I’m excited to share all the juicy details – the good, the maybe-not-so-good, and whether I believe it’s really worth your time and money. This is a close look at my time to help you decide if this trip, which promised so very much, is the one you want to take. So, get comfy; you might want a cup of tea. We are going into the heart of central Vietnam!
Why I Chose the Easy Rider Option
So, I was sitting in Hoi An, and, like your standard tourist, trying to work out how best to get to My Son. Lots of people suggested a bus trip; some said that I should think about hiring a driver for the day. I wanted something different, something memorable. I wanted a taste of adventure to add a bit of zing! The idea of zipping along country roads on the back of a motorcycle, the wind in my hair, stopping wherever I wanted – well, it seemed very inviting to me. I had heard stories of “Easy Riders” – local guides who take you on the back of their bikes to far-flung places, sharing their info and showing you secret spots far off the usual tour routes. It all sounded very amazing, like just what I was searching for. In the end, I thought “Why not?”. I went ahead and booked an Easy Rider tour that promised a visit to My Son, followed by a trip to Tien Waterfall. Sounded just lovely!
My Son Sanctuary: A Glimpse into History
My Son, the place? It’s really interesting; I am talking about the ruins of an ancient Cham civilization. Think of it a bit like a smaller, much more grass-covered version of Angkor Wat, yet in the middle of Vietnam. Pretty cool, huh? The tour guide I had with me (not the Easy Rider; a local guide at My Son) really, actually, brought the history alive. You know, telling tales of kings, gods, and ancient rituals as we moved between the crumbling towers. That really, clearly, stood out to me as something to take in while seeing the spot in person. The architecture, very, is so different, and you find that, wandering around the site, you get a real feeling of what life was like centuries ago. So, my advice would be, soak it up! Even though the spot can get very crowded with tourists, if you try, you could find a quiet spot to yourself. Then, very, you can let the atmosphere just sink in. I was saying to myself “Wow”, what an adventure it’s going to be!
Tien Waterfall: Nature’s Refreshing Embrace
After My Son, next up on the schedule, we took a turn for Tien Waterfall, which was quite a distance away by bike. Actually, I was so ready for a refreshing dip! It’s, like, I had visions of crystal-clear water cascading over rocks, a bit like an oasis in the middle of the hot Vietnamese countryside. So, too, the reality wasn’t quite what I’d built it up to be in my head. The waterfall, certainly, was lovely, and it had that feel of nature about it. Truthfully, the area surrounding it felt a bit run-down and there was, almost, a sense that I saw litter there too. I think they were building another structure there too. Although I took a quick paddle, I didn’t feel very excited about staying for a long swim. But, that’s not to say there was nothing to take in; the landscape of the country was awesome! What do you think about this place so far? We are almost at the best bits of the place!
The Easy Rider Experience: The Thrills and Spills
Right, now, let’s get into the heart of the matter: the Easy Rider part. That, for me, was a real mix of highs and lows. Having somebody drive you, really, through the countryside is an incredible experience. You actually get to see places you’d probably never find on your own. Yet, let me be blunt here; the bike wasn’t the most comfy. You find your butt goes numb after a short time. I am not saying it wasn’t manageable; it’s, arguably, something to think about if you are prone to back problems. That is something, now, I know. My driver was, still, great! He told stories of local life. We even, clearly, stopped at a roadside café where I tried some yummy local coffee. Just the best! That is, frankly, something you just won’t get on a standard bus tour, will you?
What Could Be Improved?
If I was giving this tour operator a bit of advice, there are just a little, a few things that I think would make the tour amazing for every person! To start, use newer, comfier bikes; please. Spending so much time on a slightly rickety bike, kind of, takes the shine off the day. That, actually, would add value and could lift up your ratings too. Also, it would be great if they tidied up Tien Waterfall. A bit of landscaping, actually, and some care to make sure the litter is cleared would change the experience. To close up; maybe offer options. For example, do I need to take that stop? Give some folks an opportunity to maybe decide about this or not. So, anyway, the devil is in the detail as they say! What are your thoughts about that though? Maybe its worth emailing this to them, right?
