Jaipur Tour: Amer Fort, Hawa Mahal & Elefantastic Review
Planning a trip to Jaipur? I get it, the Pink City’s charm is, arguably, kinda irresistible. So, if you’re thinking about seeing Amer Fort, Hawa Mahal, and maybe having a close interaction with elephants at Elefantastic, you might want to hear what I thought. Actually, I want to share, that too, a few suggestions based on my time there, just to make sure your experience is kinda incredible.
Amer Fort: A Majestic Start
My visit to Amer Fort was, well, quite something. Getting there early is, I think, basically crucial, really. So, that way, you’re able to skip some of the bigger crowds. Actually, it gave me a bit of breathing room to, you know, properly marvel at the architecture without hordes of people accidentally photo-bombing every single shot. That, and you’ll avoid some of the heat, which, believe me, does build up as the day wears on. I mean, it gets quite baking.
So, that structure itself, well, it’s truly spectacular. Now, it combines Hindu and Mughal styles, so too it shows you some pretty great detail. Seeing the Sheesh Mahal (the Palace of Mirrors) is, honestly, I believe it to be almost magical. I suppose the small mirrors do create the illusion of a starry sky inside, which, just in case you wondered, is really cool. Maybe you should take your time wandering through the courtyards, paying, actually, rather close attention to the intricate carvings and designs. It does tell some story, or stories.
I will say, consider maybe hiring a tour guide. It will make the entire visit better. That is that, with all the historical tidbits and stories they share, they really do bring the fort to life, actually. But, on the other hand, if you prefer exploring at your own speed, there are audio guides available, I find. It is, really, kind of the best of both cases, you could say, basically. I think it helps in this heat.
Elephant Ride or Jeep?
One thing, you will notice, it’s the option to ride an elephant up to the fort. Still, though, ethical questions hang around this, and I ultimately decided to pass. Then, I grabbed a jeep instead. Very much I still had a terrific visit and felt better about my footprint, I should hope. Still, that climb does give you a heck of a view, so, actually, take a look at all the options and see what feels correct for you. To be honest, each to their own, alright?
Hawa Mahal: The Palace of Winds
After Amer Fort, I made my way to the Hawa Mahal, or, really, the Palace of Winds. Very few structures, very few buildings, are quite as recognizable as this one, I think, with that distinctive facade that is honeycombed, really. It lets you view from the street is really captivating, you could say.
So, that story behind the construction, you know, is kind of quite nice. Designed for some royal women to observe street festivals without being seen, it gives you a small insight into the, frankly, really unique aspects of Rajasthan’s royal history. I walked in, that too, and wound my way up through the, honestly, quite small passages to the top. Very quickly the view out over the city, well, it was spectacular. Really though, I have photos of all the Pink City that really capture the essence of it.
Actually, the Hawa Mahal is better from the exterior than interior, in a way, perhaps. Very often the rooms are pretty plain. That’s okay, just being there to admire all that building’s, very, very elaborate outside does feel quite wonderful. Maybe make time to just sit in a cafe opposite the building and really soak in the atmosphere there. That will allow you some really memorable photos, I reckon.
Elefantastic: Up Close with Elephants
I have to say, this stop at Elefantastic was kind of very special. More or less, it wasn’t just some simple tourist attraction. It was more of some chance to, too it shows you, really engage with these gentle giants and just get to know them. Very soon I had heard mixed things about elephant experiences in India. Very much I chose Elefantastic based on their pledge to ethical treatment. The people were clearly loved, it’s almost, very noticeable.
We got to feed them, give them a bath, that too and find out about their, actually, really distinctive personalities. Every elephant’s story, that too, was discussed by the keepers who shared interesting details about these, actually, really spectacular creatures. In that case, I spent time learning about their diets, behaviors and all of the challenges they deal with too. And then, they need preserving. Maybe the affection and respect they have here feels obvious, which is kinda wonderful to see, genuinely.
The washing part was, to be fair, especially delightful. Getting wet alongside these, arguably, big elephants while scrubbing them down, that was memorable. Just note that, while you will enjoy riding these, this practice is increasingly frowned on by animal activists, really. You could simply have them walk beside you as an alternative. Or play.
Food Adventures in Jaipur
I had to sample the local cuisine during my trip around Jaipur, that is for sure. That is that I wanted to see if I could actually locate some things that would explode with flavor and authenticity. Really, and without any tourist fluff too. Then, I had a brilliant stroke when I was lucky enough to find the Laxmi Misthan Bhandar, so too it’s almost known as LMB, maybe you have heard? It provides you some conventional Rajasthani dishes, that too, just like dal baati churma, which you may not like? So it did taste yummy, with an, frankly, very wonderful assortment of savory, kinda, treats that just give the best experience. Maybe that’s not true.
Then, for something more on the street, actually, I moved to try some of the small stands selling pani puri and aloo tikki. These, as a matter of fact, are spicy, cheap, flavorful, yet snacks. Basically, so what they tell you does live up to what I said about tasty street-food! Be sure to actually drink the lassi, it really is the kinda ideal antidote to the spice in there. You, like your drink?
Getting Around Jaipur
Moving from point A to point B around Jaipur? So, in short, I quickly learned it could be some small adventure itself. I took autorickshaws mainly, too it’s almost known by tuk-tuks, well they are very handy and affordable. Then, you will want to actually decide the cost beforehand. With the driver to stop possible confusion in there when reaching. Oh the price…
Maybe think about utilizing ride-sharing options, like Uber or Ola, that too? So, these can possibly offer more transparency and make getting a ride simple, which is good. Very often though you will locate that roads within Jaipur are usually really congested, so actually expect there may be holdups, maybe, particularly at certain times of day, perhaps? Therefore, plan accordingly in order to stop frustrations in there and wasted minutes while at sights, alright?
Things to Know Before You Go
I learned something just before arriving at Jaipur, which may actually allow you to get more out of the destination, alright? Very often temperatures can be, truly, extremely elevated, more or less, during summer months (April-June), yet actually, therefore the ideal months may actually be from October to March, perhaps? Do, however, plan on big numbers within tourists while in peak season and actually reserve your hotel lodgings ahead.
I find, so, in this more traditional and religious society you should be conscious about actually dressing decently. You can see there covering ones shoulders/knees as to be respectful specifically at shrines and at places where there are temples there, you know. The currency is there that it, really, has Rupees as well as credit and debit cards can sometimes commonly be used at resorts, actually in shops while automated teller machines might easily be located when traveling to destinations.
Negotiating costs there especially, can allow autorickshaws but marketplaces too really can commonly lead so you would find saving that could provide, really, very quick cash! In the marketplaces be careful of scams just like usually purchasing and at historic area zones always stay vigilant by all things you can buy right here by being watchful from those which surroundings!
