Antalya Old City, Duden Falls, & Cable Car Tour Review

Okay, so picture this: you’re in Antalya, Turkey, the sun’s shining, and you’re thinking, “What’s the best way to really see it all?”. A pretty sound option just might be the Antalya Old City, Duden Waterfalls, and Cable Car Tour including lunch. Seems that, plenty of tour operators are offering pretty similar packages, promising you, like, a full day, hitting the main spots with minimum fuss. We went for it, and really wanted to share our thoughts, in case, like, you’re weighing it all up too. We hope our findings will allow you to make an informed choice.

First Stop: A Step Back in Time at Antalya’s Old City (Kaleiçi)

Kaleiçi Antalya

Kaleiçi, which can be interpreted as “within the castle”, Antalya’s Old City, is, it’s almost like, stepping right into a history book. Very narrow streets, buildings, it seems, dating back centuries, and, actually, a seriously cool atmosphere make this place pretty unique. We really began with Hadrian’s Gate, an arch erected during a Roman Emperor’s visit – it certainly shows its age. Then it was wandering the little winding alleyways, taking pictures of the, somewhat, colorful Ottoman-era houses. This area has a whole host of stories to tell, from the Roman to the Ottoman periods, and this history definitely hangs thick in the air. Actually, some really good souvenir shopping opportunities can be found there. We could definitely tell the lunch stop was coming – so many places offering a menu. It might be advisable to grab an ice cream, too, if you’re looking to take a break.

The Mesmerizing Lower Duden Waterfalls

Lower Duden Waterfalls

Next on the tour? That would be the Lower Duden Waterfalls, a spot where the Duden River seems to actually make its grand finale, kind of cascading straight into the Mediterranean. To get there from Kaleici isn’t very hard at all. Now, you can just check this natural spectacle out from a park, or, a little more spectacularly, from a boat. Arguably, we chose the boat option, and, honestly, the spray from the falls feels so refreshing in the sunshine. Basically, prepare to get a bit wet; totally a must to witness, like, the sheer force of nature that the waterfalls are. This spot provides a great moment to stop and reflect. Be careful when taking your photos though, and certainly keep your expensive electronics safe!

Lunch with a View: Fueling Up

Antalya Lunch

The tour we picked did include lunch, a kind of welcome break right in the center of the day. What was on offer certainly varied depending on the operator, but it often consists of traditional Turkish cuisine. So that would be meze (appetizers), some sort of grilled meat or fish, and salad. Now, usually the setting is carefully chosen. For instance, it’s generally a spot with views, maybe of the sea or up on a hill overlooking the, like, beautiful Antalya region. Honestly, a chance to actually recharge and try some local flavors. When picking the place you eat, bear in mind there are some that could be tourist traps. Doing a quick search, you see a handful of highly rated spots in the area. It’s all to your tastes, so enjoy.

High Above Antalya: The Tünek Tepe Cable Car

Tünek Tepe Cable Car

Once you have finished eating, after lunch, the tour rises to even bigger literal heights with a trip up to Tünek Tepe by cable car. As I recall, the cable car ascends to an impressive height, with views that stretch across the coastline, across the city, and toward the mountains, so kind of making for spectacular photo opportunities. Really, at the top, there’s almost always a rotating restaurant and, that, a viewing platform. That seems perfect for taking it all in. A chance to have a quiet coffee and just admire the view below really adds something. The view is so fantastic that it will most likely last with you for a very long time!

Booking the Tour: A Couple of Things to Consider

Booking Tours Antalya

Booking one of these tours, like most of the options out there, needs just a bit of planning. So, seasons could affect your whole enjoyment factor; summer will bring heat and bigger crowds. Yet, it can provide sunshine, blue skies and the feeling of true Summer! Spring or fall might offer milder climates and reduced crowd numbers, potentially giving more freedom to wander around each spot at your leisure. What kind of operator matters. Do you go for a group experience or hire some kind of private guide? What’s included in the package price too, really? Checking reviews from past participants may well help with getting an understanding on this point.

Making the Most of Your Day

Travel Tips Antalya

Okay, so some super practical tips for getting the absolute maximum out of your tour. As a matter of fact, wearing really comfy shoes is something you’ll thank yourself for later, as you are going to walk a lot. Obviously sunscreen and a hat for protecting yourself from the strong Mediterranean sun might be good idea. Don’t forget water! It is quite key that you should always stay really hydrated, and, maybe, take some little snacks with you for actually staving off hunger. Being able to haggle a bit, in the Old City marketplaces, may turn out well; often you can get pretty good deals. Essentially, being ready with, very probably, a camera or a smartphone guarantees you capture all those memories from what is a pretty action-packed day.

Final Thoughts: Was It Worth It?

Antalya Reflection

We went on the Antalya Old City, Duden Waterfalls, and Cable Car tour to see, it is sort of like, a comprehensive experience that packs in lots of what Antalya brings to the table. You are getting a taste of culture with a side order of natural beauty and incredible scenery, all mixed into the tour package. Arguably, this all makes it amazing if you are pressed for time or if, as a matter of fact, you’d prefer someone to sort out logistics, then this is it. So that means the overall experience feels worth it; kind of giving you plenty to talk about when you are looking back over your Antalya vacation.
