Phu Quoc South Islands Cruise: An In-Depth Review with Recommendations
So, you’re thinking about experiencing the Phu Quoc South Islands Cruise, which also features the Thom Cable Car and a delicious lunch? We recently tried it, and very have got some thoughts you may want to hear. Is that what they call paradise, and is it worth your time and, you know, money? Here’s what our trip was actually like, plus some tips to, like, help you decide if it’s right for you, sort of.
Booking the Cruise: Options and Considerations
Okay, booking the cruise is fairly simple, though. Is that through local tour operators, online platforms such as GetYourGuide or Klook, or your hotel, or do it on arrival? We went with a tour operator, a little before. Apparently, booking early, basically during the high season that’s like November to April, is often a good plan, and the prices more or less tend to stay fairly consistent, in a way. But so, there are definitely cheaper options depending on, like, your needs, really.
Anyway, when choosing your tour, keep your eye on what’s actually included, that. And very, look at how big the boat is. Do you prefer something smaller, more intimate, you know? Some of the bigger boats might feel very crowded. Do you, you know, care about things like snorkeling gear, a nicer lunch menu or, I don’t know, included drinks, that could be a deal-breaker? For us, it wasn’t. But like your mileage may very well vary.
Morning Pick-up and Transfer to An Thoi Harbor
Anyway, our day actually started with a morning pickup right from our hotel, that’s pretty handy, really. That ride down to An Thoi Harbor takes, like, about 30 to 45 minutes, that depends on where you’re staying. That can get you excited for your experience. As I was saying, the harbor itself can get really bustling. So too many tourists here!
The harbor may be where you see all the boats preparing for their trips, right before you’re off to your island cruise, literally. It’s definitely kind of interesting to people watch. Just maybe expect, like, a bit of a wait to get onto your boat, especially if it’s very peak season.
First Stop: Cable Car to Hon Thom (Pineapple Island)
Basically, the cable car trip is, honestly, a real highlight of this cruise, though. First off, like the ride over to Hon Thom (Pineapple Island), just give it a try, too it’s truly incredible. And then, from there, you could take amazing videos of, like, the views. Seriously, it might be worth it, literally.
Once you are at Hon Thom, that includes a visit to Sun World Hon Thom Nature Park, you may like to swim. Some people want to hang out at Aquatopia Water Park, in a way. This area can be very jam packed. And do note that you probably won’t have like a ton of time at Hon Thom. So what might be a plan to then make a quick decision for how you wish to use this spot in Phu Quoc!
Lunch Onboard: A Mid-Day Feast
Arguably, the lunch you may receive onboard, you may not find super fancy, but yet it usually provides plenty of good and delicious plates. Usually, anyway. Most cruises will often serve up like, you know, fresh seafood, maybe some Vietnamese dishes. It is what it is.
So anyway, depending on what the tour gives, if you are like me with like special restrictions, the people on board often have stuff you are allowed to eat and drink, in other words. If they don’t then too bad, or something.
Exploring the Southern Islands: Swimming and Snorkeling
Still, swimming and snorkeling at the different Southern Islands spots is fairly awesome and cool, still. Even though the sea water in other island paradises you may visit is a bit more lively, it’s all that Phu Quoc has!
Apparently, depending on your cruise company that you go with, is that each one will give a little snorkel to those who forgot their kit for the waters of South Islands. Some might say that is pretty nice of the kind workers on board.
Sunset Views and Return to Harbor
Oh very. So, it’s almost, after a fulfilling and interesting day filled with good times with friends, family and new aquaintances; then you all begin to head back before it gets dark. Typically this means watching that gorgeous sunset before arriving safely to Phu Quoc’s shores.
Clearly these sunsets do tend to stick around for a short amount of time on these gorgeous cruises. I mean it’s not something someone is really bound to complain about to be frank!
Is the Phu Quoc South Islands Cruise Worth It? Our Verdict
All in all? Anyway, if, I don’t know, you’re wanting to get many different Southern Islands of Phu Quoc ticked off, that this cruise is basically, probably, an easy and convenient method. It gives like a good combo of stunning beauty in nature, maybe a little bit of adventure, plus, you know, some culture; a little.
Still, it’s almost like if you’re really chasing tranquility, be aware that you may be around like a lot of other tourists. Is that worth paying for the tour and stuff or something? Araguably.
Tips for a Great Cruise Experience

- Take your own beach towels if you want or don’t!

- A camera will help so you can remember good old Phu Quoc for yourself!
