Planning a trip to Beijing and wondering if a day tour that combines a visit to a Cloisonne factory and the Great Wall is worth your while? That is a pretty common question. Well, so you know, I recently took one of these tours, and I am going to give you the complete rundown, the insights, and, of course, a completely transparent recommendation, so you can figure out if it’s the right choice for you, that is.
First Impressions: Setting Off
The tour began very early, very early. Most of these tours involve getting picked up from your hotel at what feels like the crack of dawn. I mean, honestly, waking up that early isn’t exactly my favorite thing, yet doing it to see something incredible can be worth it, alright? So, in that case, my initial feeling was that this better be spectacular!
The vehicle was alright, pretty comfy, and the guide seemed amiable, talking a lot in, like, a real enthusiastic way about the day ahead. It was, maybe, just a little reassuring to hear someone who sounded pretty upbeat at that hour, is that right? The drive to the Cloisonne factory wasn’t terribly long, providing, maybe, a decent chance to just look at the cityscape of Beijing waking up, so, too, it’s always something I find somewhat fascinating, alright?
Cloisonne Factory: Art in the Making
Cloisonne, should you, maybe, be asking, is an old metalworking method, particularly decorative, alright? These are things made using enamel, the colors being something to see, really. A little trip to one of the factories lets one see all the stuff involved.
We went through the facility, watching people do this, you know, old artwork, is that right? So you know, it involves putting thin metal strips on an item, making sections which they will then fill with colored enamel. A few folks might just discover this is a bit on the repetitive side, even a little boring, yet I am happy to say it just gave one more understanding for all the effort going into each piece. So that is cool.
Okay, a heads-up is in order now. Pretty typical of these factory trips, there will, clearly, be a shop where one may make buying options. In no way, of course, did anyone make us do this, but knowing ahead, clearly, is worthwhile, that is.
The Great Wall: Conquering Juyongguan
Now comes the time for the highlight, like your visiting the Great Wall, just to be clear, alright? So, a lot of trips will take one to parts like Badaling or Mutianyu. So you know, mine led to the Juyongguan area, so, too, this segment, alright, which provides not just incredible scenery, yet something, maybe, just a little gentler in number of tourists than more famous parts, alright?
Oh my gosh! Standing there, surrounded by, just amazing sight lines all around you, so that you get that there sense, right? It might get you feeling that past and presence somehow coming near, it is almost like this.
Be warned; the stroll is fairly demanding physically! Expect ramps that get pretty intense, too, is that so? Be certain about wearing pretty comfy shoes, alright, and think of having water too, too. Despite all the energy it needs, one might argue seeing views along the wall might just pay one in kind. The picture ones took turned out lovely too.
Food for Thought: Tour Logistics
Almost every Beijing day trip does its lunch things more or less the same, usually more group-oriented style things in close restaurants, pretty near the wall, right? You probably should not plan upon great grub. It is enough, you are, maybe, looking for some filling before some more wall exploration, like you do.
Also think very heavily concerning the traffic situation getting back to Beijing. Returning is apt to take far longer when evening comes near. Should your evening agenda prove crucial, make plans factoring that this issue might be. You see now!
